What is the ideal diet for kune kune pigs?

Hi!

We've recently been exploring the idea of adding a pair of kune kunes to our hobby farm as pets and not for breeding. I've done so much research my head is spinning but I've still yet to find the answer I'm looking for about diet because everyone has given me a different answer. I know they're pasture pigs who's main diet should consist of grass. We only have grass in the spring and summer. What is ideal to supplement their diet during the months where grass is scarce? I've read that hay and a good pellet diet with no more that 16% protein can be used but what other nutritional values should I be looking at when picking feeds? We want to be prepared to make sure we're providing the best care.

Also, can anyone recommend any books to read regarding their care?

If anyone has any other advice too, I'd love it!

Feed stores have pellet feed for pigs. That would be a good base and start. It wouldn't take much.

I give mine pellets in the evening and alfalfa in the morning. They also get let out to graze and have hay. They do get kitchen scraps as well. Mine are breeder. I have a kune boar and two mix kune females.
