Literally just happened within the the past several hours.
I last checked on the flock at around 12pm today. Came to check on them now at 3pm, and my eldest Ewe is dead and extremely bloated... Did she die from bloat???
For a bit of background, we had purchased this ewe with her lambs last month. She had been seemingly healthy early on, even now. The pasture they are on is very dry, but did have some mature clover sprouting up. However, I don't believe that would have been the cause of bloat? They have been on this new pasture for almost a week now. She acted normal and received a small portion of grain every evening. I can't begin to think what caused the sudden death. Its truly disheartening.
Any ideas? It really is a guessing game at this point.
