My sheep had a wound that would not heal. In summer it was very difficult to keep the flies off of it, and she would scratch and lick the wound, causing any semi healed parts to reopen.

Now that we've been through a few nice months of winter with no flies, the wound has closed and some wool growth has happened. There's still an area in the center that does not have wool.

What can I do to keep the flies off now that spring is here? I've tried the 'cool' mesh sheep blankets, fly repellents, and now have a makeshift bandage with duct tape that's just barely sticking.

Is there anything I can do to encourage the wool to grow faster?

Flies don’t like garlic. Maybe crush a fresh clove of garlic and duct tape that over the wound. Be sure to put a smear of Vaseline on the skin so the garlic doesn’t burn the new skin.
