I wanted to post this where it was applicable to most herd animals since I figured it would extend outside of just goats. I'm new to how much is going on here with our animals and just looking for some tips, advice, reassurance.
Well, I made a post awhile back in regards to our goat family being attacked by stray dogs and we've been battling that for almost two weeks now. The two impacted goats have both received subq antibiotic shots sent from vet that were received and one of them also went and had wound care/cleaning afterwards along with other wound repair. The major wounds on his back leg and under front leg are healing well. My question is this:

Both goats had some gnarly ear injuries.
The one little fella had one amputated and the other ear was messed up pretty bad too. This other full ear was cleaned during "wound care" roughly 11 days ago and was looking good but now is looking rough. They sent home a wound care spray called Spurr's Big Fix which we used each day. But now after all this time we are seeing pus coming out today. We have been flushing both of them daily along with the spray and antibiotic ointment at night. But both of them (similar ear injuries) are having the same problem with s bit of swelling around wounds, pus, odor.

Is it normal for the discharge to be happening still after nearly two weeks like this? When we get that cleaned out and off they still have such discolored skin underneath. The vet said as bad as they were that the skin would probably "fall off" but it's just been a nerve wracking mess and I just want to try and make sure we are doing what we can.

Chlorhex was used initially to clean around wounds. We've been homemade saline (distilled water/salt) flushing them, spraying Big Fix, then later in the day flushing again, antibiotic. Back and forth to try and keep it clean. Flies kept off of it.

Is there anything I can be doing different or better? I may be overreacting but like I said it has just been problem after problem between the attack and aftermath and vet bills.

Another concern in regards to this happening is the little one (who went for surgery and all) is now also having swelling in his nose and cheeks (he did not have any bites here and I don't see or feel any swollen lymph nodes) and I cannot tell if it is related to the same issue with his ear or if we are dealing with wasp sting since we knocked down nests a few days ago. We don't see any snake bite type wounds so my only theory is related to ear or sting/insect.

I googled homeopathic remedy goat infected pus ear, rearranged the words several times and came up with a few results.

This one mentions garlic juice. As bad as the infection sounds I wonder if you could crush garlic in olive oil or use a blender, then strain it and put drops of the garlic oil directly in the ears.

This one is remedies for humans, but explains treatment and different remedies.

I found several references to using garlic oil and echinacea, also goldenseal

Some days we just "can't win"... You're getting more than your share but doing a great job! They're super loved.

With the wounds, meds, stress -- I'm thinking their immune systems are also working overtime. Just as a precaution, a little push to heal, do you have any nutri drench? Give them a little every day other day. :hugs like vitamins.

We started them on Power Punch as that was what we had here at the house already to start (it looked similar - we gave some of this after the attack initially but they've had a break from it for over a week) . The son his face swelling has decreased so we hope that his was maybe a sting instead of some kind of reaction to the wounds. No pus discharge from the ear today. Dad's got some in his ear now there was some swelling under one spot which was from that so we got what we could out and then cleaned. Peroxide for them then wiped and antibiotic ointment. Tonight we will get a warm cloth to help try and get any of the nasty out, then wipe off with Chlor to clean around the ears better before more ointment. I will look into the garlic remedy thank you so much.

There will be swelling and discharge for quite a while after a trauma like that. The best you can do is keep the wounds clean and the animals as low stress as possible.

Keep an eye on their temperatures to monitor for infection. Don’t use a lot of hydrogen peroxide as it can inhibit new, healthy skin growth.

Did they only get the one shot of antibiotics? They probably need more. Dog injuries are nasty and can take a very long time to heal properly.

@purplequeenvt both goats had two rounds of antibiotic shots from vet. I did luckily remember about the peroxide use from a previous injured pet a few years ago. Thank you for the reminder on that and also about just keeping them cleaned and low stress. Poor things they sure have been feeling it the past two weeks.

Well here is how we are doing now:
Some of the old skin that was damaged sloughed off of dad's ear. Pus has all but diminished and with this morning's cleaning and flush we're looking better. Compared to a healthy ear it has a way to go, but no swelling and ear feels normal he is in good spirits. Son has no pus in his ear at all but he sure hates the cleanings!

We are seeing slow but sure healing around the edges of the wounds. They both are sick of us having to mess with them but compared to the first night, I am glad they are fighting us on it. Afterwards they are getting positive reward (snacks) though to help it be less tressful.

Things will definitely look worse before they start to look better and sounds like you’re heading in the better direction!

If it’s any encouragement, I had a a 5 or 6 month old Shetland (years ago now) who was pinned down by a supposed-to-be LGD (LONG story) and he ate her entire shoulder blade off her, muscle, bone, all of it while she was alive. We got her stitched up and I did months of wound care. I always said it was a day by day decision with her. If I ever went out there and she was obviously done, I would stop, but that little thing wanted to live. She healed and had a limp, but only if you really looked for it and she had a nasty scar. I knew it was all good the day I went out and she was racing around with her friends and jumping in the air.

October 5th 2015 shortly after the attack and first vet visit.

January 27th 2016, the stitches pulled out within a couple weeks of the injury. She had another vet visit. She had daily cleanings and dressing changes, iodine paste was spread on the wound before redressing. She was assessed by the vet several times during this process.
