    Hello guys.

My silver fox babies are 17 days now. I built an outdoor walk in type cage so the babies nest is in a rabbit house. When is it that the babies need water? I have been putting some weeds in the house for them to eat and they love it! I know they get some water from the weeds but is that enough until they start coming out of the house?
They made it this far I dont want them to be dehydrated.

    Thanks

p.s The moms main diet is weeds and grass with occasional pellets. She has hay all the time and the amount of weeds and grass I give her last half of the day. Usually about 9 in the morning to 9 at night when I do my nightly checks shes just about out.

This is the best picture I have right now of how her house. Her house is in the bigger side on the right.
I put the bags there because I was paranoid about water leaking through. And there is deer netting over the cage in case of birds

also the dogs and the cats dont freak them out anymore.

sorry for the long post just for water...

Do you have water bottles or bowls for the mom?
The babies should be coming out now and looking for water. They will watch their mom and see how she drinks and they'll follow her lead. I will usually check the babies everyday for dehydration (pull up their skin and if it tents they're dehydrated) and if they are you need to give them water. It's pretty rare for a baby to get dehydrated because they have their mom's milk for a few more weeks.
Just make sure they have a source of clean water :)

I have a bowl for them. It's not too deep though. I took the babies out for some play and one ran right through the water. One baby was out the other day but because of the storms I put it back. Today when the babies got tired and ready to go back I showed them how to climb the steps to get back in and they put themselves in the nest. They are so cute.
One of the babies is really skinny and I was getting worried about it but since it is starting to eat food other than milk do you think it will be okay?

There is almost always a baby in every litter that is too thin and a bit weak...sometimes they make it and sometimes they don't. Just make sure the babies have oats mixed with their pellets for weight gain.
And keep an eye out for diarrhea in the skinny baby...if that happens give Kaolin/Pectin. I use Vets Preferred brand and you can get that on amazon. Give 1.5 mL for a 2 week old baby or 2mL for a 3 week old baby and that will clear up the diarrhea. :)
