It rained all day... very very soft light rain.... There was about 4 or 5 tenths in the gauges around 5 or so.... I didn't dump them or anything since it was still sprinkling, lightly raining...
I took the samples to UPS and went by the stockyard and picked up the check from last friday's cows and 2 calves that got sold... not sure which cow was mine yet... haven't asked DS yet which was which... but they all brought over $1100.... I think mine was one of the "lighter weight ones" since she had some dairy in her... but no complaints.....I will talk to DS and find out who was who so I can record it on the check stubb so he knows and all that... try to keep records of all the ones that have been sold... Stopped at Dunkin but nothing today... the ones I got the other day are outside getting rained in and melting the sugary stuff...
Went to Walmart next to Dunkin... got some packages of seeds for $.50 to put in the garden maybe next week... mostly sunflowers I like to put in.... some yellow squash seeds... cheap enough. Also got a climbing YELLOW rose bush, discounted. kinda dried out but still had some green leaves. Got it in water when I got home to get it "revived".... hope to put it out along the split rail fence... Was looking for some plant supports... got a couple one day... they fit the top of the 1/2 barrel looking planters I have... keeps the chickens out from scratching the soil in them... but I must have gotten them at Lowe's garden dept... Want a couple more... took the legs off of them so they just sit on top of the planters... when the plants grow up some then I can put the legs back on them and they will support the plant stems...

The variegated leaved irises from my parents place, have sent up a couple blooms... Regular purple blooms... but they are starting to do better... Have another one that bloomed that is a different purple and white combination from the early ones that bloomed... Have seen several other ones along the roads that I want to stop and get a rhizome or 2 to add to my collections... and a neighbor down the road that I want to stop and ask if I can buy a couple of rhizomes of some different ones than I have... some are almost an orange or apricot color... The thing I like about irises is they come up every year, are pretty maintenance free... and after they bloom you can cut back the flower stems and they are just nice green leaves to offset something else you can plant there... A couple of the yellow ones here fell over I noticed, so I cut the stems and brought them in the house... they don't last long but are pretty for a day or 2...

Got the meters put in the car and the hoses for tomorrow but did not change the brackets as it was raining a bit. I will hopefully have time to do it mid-day tomorrow and the rain is supposed to let up for a bit also... Bottles are in the trays for tomorrow also. Got the smaller cooler in the car and will put a 2 gal bucket in to take when I pick up the samples at the farm where I get my milk.... leave the empty bucket and get a full one... I will get some ice to put in the cooler to keep it cold while I test and all. Already had texted him as soon as I knew I was testing as this is the farm he sends his samples in on his couple of registered cows... saves me a trip to get milk and I get his samples to take with me to test and put the info in their computer...
Had a farm call and ask if I would be interested in testing them. They were one that our other tester that "retired" north of here, asked if I might take them, then they decided to go with the other girl up that way... well, I haven't called them back... I have done them before when she was out several years ago to get her hip replaced.... I guess I will take them on, it isn't a real hard herd to do, for now at least. They are getting older, no one to take it over, so don't think he is going to keep milking for too many more years either...
Plus, that one that I used to do the tank sample, and had me order all the brackets, and then redid his parlor and didn't call me for over a year, just called and wants to get a test set up... wants me to help get them going... I said they would have to go owner sampler as I was not taking on anymore herds.... but I said I would help with getting them going with it... so.... got to call him back... maybe tomorrow...

Moved the cactuses outside to get some rain water...today.... have some flowers on some again... the salmon colored one has some buds almost opened and I see some white ones on one and some pink buds on another... also moved out the 2 Norfolk island pines... they like warmer than 45 so I think we should be okay even though it is cool at night. It would have been too cold the other night. I am going to get the spider plants moved out to the chain where I hung them under the maple tree last year... the big pots that the leaves got frosted/frozen last year are all coming back really good... amazing... easier to water them where it can run out on the ground too...

Hit the "post" I guess... one more thing.... I saw a tiny PURPLE asparagus spear up in the tub where I planted them the other day.... YAY....:yesss::weee:jumpy:jumpy:clap. so hoping more will come along once they got watered well and now this rain, will bring some life back to them....

Also checked out cows and the last one still hasn't had her baby at the nurse cow pasture... most were all around there when I did the calves and some of the usual ones came in to eat grain but I did not grain the big ones today. 2 or 3 times a week is enough... want to get those couple in for DS to move.... maybe this weekend...
Time to eat something, and quit for the night.

@Sequestered Ridge Ranch ... I hate to tell you but you are keeping company with some very well "seasoned cougars"...!!!!!! I had my big 70 last Sept... @Mini Horses and I spent the day at the fall Poultry Swap......she's got a couple years on me... @Baymule 's catching up with me... but will never "catch me" unless I keel over...
My DS hit 51... so you are a youngster compared to many of us..... @Ridgetop and her DH are in that "golden PRIME" age bracket too..... @Mike CHS and his wife are close too.....as well as a few others...
We just keep on keeping on... keeps us all "young at heart" if not so young in the body.... but I will bet that @Mini Horses is as fit and capable as anyone I know.... my knee replacements and horrible PT slowed me down some... working on getting that back better .....
That is why many of us wish you were a neighbor... you could work for each of us a day a week and we would all be set and ready to go..... :hide :hide:hide:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:clap:clap:clap

Well the days of cheap property are gone from here unless we hit a recession or depression and with higher priced properties, more people with deeper pockets will only be able to afford being my neighbor. Does that mean higher quality people, who knows as there is bad apples on both sides, but seems only the mentally deranged has made it here. Or are they mentally sane and I'm the mentally deranged one?
No jobs in town so you better have a nice pension too.

Teresa is still one of the youngsters as she is 9 years younger than my 73 years. :)

as you know all too well @Baymule ... what it is like to try to pour feed with animals trying to climb over you to get to it... it's alot harder with 1000 lb cows, than 200 lb sheep.
DH had me go in the pen to pour the pellet in the feeders the other day and I was stuck like in concrete with the sheep pressed against my legs. Glad it wasn't cows! I like J feeders, but have too many sheep for those to work now. That funnel feeder Margali is talking about is probably a giant J feeder. I wonder if we could build one.
It embarrasses me too, with the vet.... he sees how stupid DS acts... at one point he threw up his hands and said f... this, just sell all the cows, just stop bothering to check them....
You would think that DS would be embarrassed to act that way in front of the vet too!
Sad thing is that she and I think alike on some things... but I could never believe that this thing will last again... guess if he thinks he is happy, that's his life.
If she wasn't the reason for a most of his bad attitude, you could have been friends if they had gotten together sooner.
I also sometimes think she may be contemplating selling it..
Same idea as MiniHorses - buy it, but too expensive. Could you rent out the house and stables to offset some of the cost?
passed the six oh years agooo -- need to count backward now.
I started counting bckwards at 39 - my kids were so confused by the time I hit 60 they had n idea what age I was!

No, just ones with more money. Often those kind look down on everyone else. The ones with more money think that because they put up fancier houses you should too "to increase the value of the neighborhood".

You cradle snatcher, you!

No, it means people with sticks up their...
Hopefully they won't make it long and will all move on once it becomes clear the living isn't easy or cheap.
