They are not English sparrows. Male/female looks to be the same to casual observer. Cute, speckled breast and knows what time the feed is put out. LOL

Got a close up of this pretty fellow. I really ought to put out a bird feeder, but I don’t my checkbook could stand feeding another animal much less the hordes of freeloaders that would show up. LOL

I enlarged your photo. Brown bird has a heavily streaked breast. Wish I could make out the beak. I am thinking it might be a female Purple finch, and they do frequent eastern Texas in the winter.

Finches have fat beaks, like the cardinal. Sparrows have beaks that are a little more tapered, coming to a point.

I was looking at sparrows that frequent Texas in the winter. It might also be a Song sparrow, it looks like its cap is dark.

Could it be a house finch? We've got A LOT of them out here.

But just females? The males are pretty obvious with their orangey-red markings.

I have not seen a cardinal in real life in decades. Gorgeous pics!!!

I miss seeing Grosbeaks, we had them at the feeders every winter in Connecticut.

There are also Indigo Buntings here, so beautiful, turquoise with a sheen in their feathers. And Painted Buntings, multicolored, so gorgeous.

I've seen Indigo buntings twice here, as they were migrating. Gorgeous.

We have Eastern bluebirds here, I see them on the electric wires, and occasionally they stop by my feeders for some suet.

Eventually DH wants to pt up some bird feeders. We will hang the hummingbird feeders up again this spring. DH loves our barn swallows They have multiple nests in the porch corners and heloves sitting with his coffee watching them feed their chicks. We need to power wash the porch and repaint but he doesn't want to destroy their nests. LOL
