Bought my herdsire for the year! I'm so excited about him. The farm he came from was devastated by a tornado and had a big buck kid sale, so I was able to get a goat from them that would normally be way out of my budget. Of course I feel terrible about the damage they had but also thankful I was able to get an outstanding buck.

He has lots of grand champions and great milk behind him. I can't wait for his babies! He's the sweetest boy.

Meet Copper!

I weighed two of the biggest ram lambs today and I was so pleased. The nice black and white ram lamb out of Mocha is 35 pounds at 4 weeks old and the ram lamb out of my milkiest ewe is 38 lbs at 5 weeks old! I think that's pretty good. I'm guessing they will be at least 50 lbs by weaning, maybe more.

Even Hope the bottle ewe is doing well at 24 lbs. She thinks she's a goat by now and gets all the premium goat feed too. She's sooo spoiled. Look at her chubby self stuffing her face with alfalfa among all those mini goats! 😂

I've been having minimal parasite problems this year thankfully. Two lambs out of 15 had scours for a few days that cleared up immediately after a dose of safeguard + herbs. I followed up with ivermectin a week later and all is well now. I have deworming herbs and kelp out free choice with their minerals and that seems to be keeping the adults healthy. Lots of grass! I'm struggling to keep up.

I am getting ready to wean lambs. I did a weight check at the end of May and was pretty pleased with the results. Of note was a single ram lamb who weighed 51 lbs at 9 weeks and Mocha's twin ram who weighed 47 lbs at 8 weeks. I had a buyer for him, but they ghosted me. I'm still going to try to sell him as a breeding ram. He's got excellent conformation and pretty color!

I've also been starting show training with some of the 3 month old doelings. It's so hard at first but they learn quickly.

Our buckling we kept for a companion to our breeding buck was getting nasty and mean already, so yesterday he got castrated. My little sis helped, then comforted him afterwards and gave him some treats. Sorry not sorry little guy!
