Where do I start this update…. 🤪

I’ll try to make it short but there’s always something going on around here.

A few days after Dottie lambed I started noticing that little Gwynn (7 month old ewe) wasn’t acting like her normal self. She was isolating herself from the flock, would lay out with her whole body completely flat and wouldn’t come to me like she usually does. She is my friendliest little ewe lamb, always curious and ready to receive my affection. I knew something was wrong. Well long story short, we were dealing with pneumonia and she was going down fast! She lost 8 pounds in a week 😣 I treated her according to the Natural Sheep Care book by Pat Colbey:

Dolomite (calcium and magnesium)

Vitamin A and D

vitamin C

Powdered vitamin E

B12

I also drenched her with NutraDrench and gave her a copper oxide bolus in case we were dealing with any parasites that were weakening her immune system. Weighed her a week later and she had regained 6lbs (putting her at 58lbs).I’ve continue to offer her the dolomite free choice and vitamin E once a day. She bounced back and started grazing with the rest of the ewes again, running up to me when she saw me entering the paddock and making noise. This week she’s up another 6 pounds (she is 64lbs now). To say that I was extremely stressed during this time of shepherding is an understatement 😩 but I am so happy to see Gwynn feeling a lot better and making good progress each week.

Gwynn feeling much better.

Dottie’s lambs have consistently been gaining about 5 pounds each week. They are 2 weeks now.

Stagg is 19.26lbs and Russell is 18.94lbs.

Dottie is an awesome mother 😊

Stagg and Russell are very shy, they have been the hardest lambs to handle… rams 🤪

Reestablished my sourdough starter and started baking sourdough bread again 😋

Also got some Mexican vanilla extract to make homemade coffee syrup for the family. I don’t drink coffee but it is also delicious in my Dandy blend drink🤤

I’ve picked up the ruck sack again, rucking 1.5 miles every morning. I love the way God paints the sky every morning.

We installed a pull up bar in our front yard. All the adults and children are working on our pull up skills and abilities daily. I can’t do my first full pull up yet, but I can hang for a whole minute and do a few scapula pull ups.

Our rams Snickers and Weller have been very naughty!!!! They jumped the fence and in to the ewes paddock they went!!!! 😩 I lost it when I checked the cameras at 5am one morning and saw Snickers in with the ewes!!!! They have now been separated to a different area of the yard and not right next to the ewes. It was great while it worked, until it didn’t. We ordered another charger for the electric fence. So we may or may not have unplanned lambs in 5 months 🤦🏻‍♀️ not how I planned nor intended it to be but you live and you learn and so it goes.

Baaaaaaaad Snickers!!!!

In their new location right outside my bedroom window 👀 don’t they look so innocent 🙄

My pepper plants are doing really well, the ones I put in the garage and neglected all winter 😝 already have peppers on them and 2 of my new ones from this year do as well. Tomatillo plants are starting to get flowers. Rosemary is still alive and I also planted some marigolds.

There is so much going on in the back pasture.

Mullein growing in multiple spots, we will harvest again this year for mullein tea and syrup.

Our mimosa tree is blooming. We’ve used the flowers to make jelly and a tincture.

First year we see this cacti get flowers, if they were pollinated properly we could potentially get fruit. May God be willing.

No fruit on our persimmon trees yet, but starting to get some flowers. Something is munching on the leaves.

You use mimosa flowers? I'll have to look into it. I thought they were just invasive and annoying.

Boys will be boys! Rams can be real inventive when it comes to to getting to the ladies!

Gwynn is such a pretty girl, I’m so glad she is better now, due to your loving care.
All your lambs are adorable.

Your homestead is looking good, all the animals are healthy and happy.
