@canesisters I'm with you. Our school he was the same. Heck, one year they suggested starting last week of August and there was a lot of dissent because of Labor Day weekend being critical at VA Beach -- high schoolers worked many jobs! 😄 Back then neither yr round or homeschooling was allowed.

Enjoyed my day of retirement yesterday

I've gotten past my morning stretch routine, now :caf Yeah that and check jobs I have scheduled. It's back to work time. Coffee is a little strong this morn, but good. A pot of milk is heating to make a quick cheese before I need to leave -- cottage cheese type. :drool it's great at breakfast with fruit. I'll empty DW while that's "working", strain curds, then feed chores while cheese cools. Multi tasking on the farm 👍

Enjoy your day, everyone :highfive:

School here goes back Tuesday 12th.... County north started last week. The next county north doesn't go back til the week of 25th.... their BIG county fair starts tomorrow and a few years ago, school started during fair week and half the school was empty and angry parents said their kids were NOT going to have to go to school with the fair going on... so school board got smart real quick and changed it back...

I was having a conversation with someone just the other day.
We were wondering if it was just our limited childhood view of the world, but we were under the impression that EVERYONE back in the 70's & 80's went to school from (roughly) Labor Day to mid June (depending on how many snow days we're used).
That was the norm for us up north... You went back Wed after Labor day (teachers went on Tues to get ready for us).... we had Thanksgiving... wed 1/2 day, back on Monday... Christmas was a week-10 days m/l.... 23rd 1/2 day back Jan 2nd ..... week off in Feb (plus the 2 separate Presidents birthdays)... for Winter break.... and Easter week in April ...mostly... Then we got out anywhere from June 10th to June 30th... according to how many snow days we used...
Labor day was the "last hurrah " of summer.... and our family always went to Vermont to my grandparents place since my dad got off an extra day.... besides whenever we could go during the summer.....

That sounds right to me. I got pulled out of school 2 weeks early every year. We followed the cherry harvest from CA to Oregon, WA and finally Montana.

Raised in Connecticut, same thing. But when we moved to SC in the late 1980s our children started school in late August, were out by late May. Supposedly it was like that due to children traditionally helping on the family farms.

My grandchildren in Chicago started back to school this week, but it is a parochial school.
