So in the 80’s they were much calmer?
For sure. The only reason I didn't care for them was they have short hair. Add in not one person knew what a Malinois was. Now everyone know and they are in shelters all over. Popularity ruined the breed. Most are loose canons and probably next on the insurance ban list. I know some nice ones, well bred and bred for the right reasons. Sadly though it's the I've got one, you've got one, lets have puppies.

The popularity ruined cocker spaniels, GSD, collies, beagles, etc.

Don't get me started on doodle "breeds".

Just bingewatch Cesar Millan and you'll get a feel for the idiots who should NOT have dogs!

Show people are ruining the Anatolians. They only want pretty and don’t care about working ability. @Ridgetop introduced me to Erick, an Anatolian breeder for 40 years and he is a wealth of information. He has waiting lists for his puppies, show people pay top dollar and then don’t work them. He has shown his dogs, right out of the field and won championships.

"Show people" have ruined many breeds of animals in all types of livestock... Dogs, cattle, horses, chickens... Looks are NOT all that there is but for show people, that is what is emphasized... and the only thing a judge can use at that time, in that setting, so compare animals...
Sheep dog trials and other things that show off the working ability of the animal is as if not MORE important to many of these working breeds...
How do you measure the dogs ability to stave off predators in a show ring??? How do you be sure that claiming a certain breed of chicken....YOUR particular bird, is a champion egg layer???? Not just a picture perfect type that only laid 50 eggs last year????

At least in the dairy world there is milk testing by independent companies... like the one I work for... to do a semblance of fair reporting of production.... and yes there is cheating in EVERY SINGLE method of trying to ensure honest reporting... but it helps to keep the records of a cow or goats performance honest and accurate.
