I was going outside earlier, but thunderstorms popped up. Weird, not in the forecast. Wind was roaring, trees swaying.

At this point maybe I'll go sift flour, preparatory for making bread. Bread is on my To Do list for Saturday.

In the single digits up here.

Talking of heating... the fuel oil space heater is making noises! Running, but LOUD.

I had kid take it apart, clean it... and put it back together. But...clearly he missed something, because though it is running, it is still LOUD.

If I knew loud was the only issue...I would ignore it.... but as we all know... if you don't fix whatever as soon as the squeak starts, you end up with the whatever trying to explode on ya. :old

Yeah, we don't need anymore explosions in this group! 🙄

Coffee is ready. I have no ambition.

@RR Homestead I'm sorry that your heater isn't working. I've never had a pellet stove, but I've had quite a few wood burning heaters and fireplaces. In this Redneck Mansion, I have electric heat and a small propane heater. I run that heater a lot during the winter with the electric heat for back up. Rural areas in Texas are scattered with co-ops. Plus Texas has it's own power grid. If you live in a co-op area, there is no other power company available but I get darn good service. The co-ops came about because there was no power available in rural areas, way back then. I prefer co-ops over the mish-mash of power companies with their crappy service.
I'm sorry too. 🥶😂 Thanks. We've never had a pellet stove before this. It's technically old now. We started really struggling to get wood for our wood stove and what we could get was insanely over priced to buy so we changed to the pellet stove. It's incredibly expensive. It costs us on average $8-$10 a day to run (pellets being the more expensive part). Our house is so badly insulated it's impossible to really keep warm without a raging wood fire. We were hoping this thing would last until we are out of here. We'll have some discussions once DH gets home I'm sure.
New house has gas heat/air. Never had that before. Turns out the house is technically "over insulated" for the area which actually makes us happy. Heater seems to run far less than we thought it would. There's also a gas log insert I think it's called. Not sure if that's technically for heat or just for a pretty fire. We'd actually prefer wood but then we've never had central heat and air. We may be living the high life soon. 😂
Around -11 your nostrils may stick shut briefly during a long inhale. Watch those fingers and toeses, they will cool down fast with the wrong wardrobe and hurt when they warm up. And Lord help you if the wind blows. I grew up on the high plains and a friend from Point Barrow AK told me we had some pretty respectable cold.
-11?!?!?! 🥶🥶🥶🥶:hideNope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope with a side order of NOPE!!!!!! :hide🥶🥶🥶🥶
False Spring here, temps in the 70s today.

@Baymule I am lacking ambition this morning, too. Caleb and I did do a good long walk already, but concrete blocks are waiting.

Video that makes more sense to me after reading posts here by @farmerjan and others:
Been there done that quite a few times. Part of why we monitor heifers especially close. Sometimes they are so sure that someone else's calf is theirs they just refuse to get down to popping out their own. We usually process each calf soon after birth then move the pair to another field. Helps prevent those things from happening but there's always that one cow...... 😂

That shouldn't be funny but it made me laugh. Probably because DH just had that water pipe explosion in the basement. How many places can you say that and mean it though? 😂 I agree.

Gas heat is warm...and relatively inexpensive.

If the electricity goes out the gas furnace/unit may not run, but I'm fairly certain the gas logs will work fine.

Is it propane or natural gas? Propane will have a tank or two outside that need to be filled, but natural gas is provided in buried lines.

Good afternoon all! :frow
Cold night with only 1 small floor heater but heating blankets did help. DH is at the airport. Prayers would be appreciated for his safe travel. He has a decent lay over which stinks but I guess it's better than last time where his first plane was so late and the layover was short he had to literally run to the next plane and barely made it before they closed the doors. I'm ready for him to be back because I miss him dearly however I also am sorry for him to come back. That sounds awful to "say" but he sounded so happy there.
Time to get a few more things done in the house before it's time to get ready to go pick DH up. Got all the remaining supplements capsulized and a ton of processing done and put up. Didn't get ANY taxes inputted. Boo. Oh well. Still a couple weeks until our apt. It will be fine. :caf
Y'all have a fantastic afternoon! :hugs

There is a propane tank outside. We thankfully have a generator and it's already got a plug run to the shed that generator will live in. We'll have power when it's out. :)

Propane is delivered as needed. The tank is usually owned by the fuel company. A drop of 100 gallons can be expensive, but we sign up for the budget plan. They figure out what you'll probably use over the winter, then split up the cost into monthly payments.
