help! ear tag in wrong place caused bleeding on lamb's ear

thanks SheepGirl, I did see the helpful video on your website. It is the same tagger tool I have, same struggling of the lamb too when you have to use both hands. I'm not alone, I hope you can get the hoof trimming video up soon, that's another thing I'm not confident about. You...

help! ear tag in wrong place caused bleeding on lamb's ear

thankyou people, for your caring. The little ewe is jumping around happily as usual today so I expect she will be alright. Sheepgirl, I will try to be even more careful in the future and hope it never happens again. I had to put the tag in with no helper which is difficult because it takes...

help! ear tag in wrong place caused bleeding on lamb's ear

someone please advise me what to do ! It is Sunday, May 25,2014, about 4:25 pm EST. while putting an ear tag in a week old lamb it is too close to the lower vein (NOT in the middle vein) and it drew blood! I feel awful about this and I hope the lamb is not in pain. There are no instructions...

Do your hair sheep lambs ever start off wooly?

That is good to know, that the hair sheep lambs can grow out of that stage. I had one that needed shearing last summer. I didn't know there was a chance she might have shed the next summer...and I sold her. Oh well...there will be lots more lambs this Spring! I will be more patient the next time...

    Father - To - Be

thanks boothcreek and sheepshape, I will put a male sheep in with my ram once the new one is weaned. It will be his own son. Would the ram still be ok with the new sheep if it is a mild-mannered wether? Or does it have to be another ram that can stand up to any rough play ?

    Anti-Monsanto - issues

When I read a news article about someone's cattle not doing well on GM feed I read more about it. Seems the toxin those GM plants produce to kill the insects/ weeds that attack the crop plants also ends up causing problems in the stomachs of ruminants. So I quit feeding corn and began feeding...

    Father - To - Be

Maybe my Katahdin ram is too bored because he is alone most of the year. So he has nothing to do but take it out his frustration at me, like try to bash my hand when I'm dumping oats in his dish. I don't dare go into his pen now. His days may be numbered. The other rams that are with Goliath...

    East Friesains and Lacune sheep

SheepGirl, that's what I thought happened when I got my first part EF ewe, that she had been stepped on. Then her lamb was born at my place...with a kinked tail! So anyway I think it is kinda cute.:love

    Body Condition Scoring

Thanks for this, the pictures are helpful. Now that my sheep are in full fleece it is more difficult to tell if they are staying in good condition. I tried to feel for the bony places on their hips through all that wool and they seem ok, but is there a better place to check for muscle ? They...

    East Friesains and Lacune sheep

I see the white one has the kink in her tail like my part EF ewe has, and her lamb also has that same kink! It must be a EF characteristic :p They are wonderful sheep, so friendly!

    Father - To - Be

Goliath, the father of many! yeah, give him some goodies to munch on, he deserves it! He has a pleasant face, not pugnacious like my ram.
