Our friends from Earthsong Farm and Bunker Babes are there. Both L amanchas and Recorded Grades. Probably a few more I'm not as close to.
In fact, the youth fitting team from Florida got first place Saturday. I told my daughter its great because she has great goat mentors. Bad, because they...
If you divide 2/3 the other direction you won't have to go through one section to access the other. Our property is long and skinny and that's one thing that is a pain. Especially when we have to take the tractor through 2 goat areas and one horse pen and they all want the grass on the other...
Now that we've had them for almost a month I should probably introduce them!
We picked up Aravis and Lord Drinian at One Fine Acre in N.C. when we took my daughter to camp. We are so pleased with them.
Aravis has captured everyone's heart- even my husband's who frequently gets frustrated with...
Good luck! You'll love the room. Although I still think having all those goats hidden in your neighborhood was sort of cool.
We have five acres and have plenty of room to expand. We have boarded horses on 3 of it. Right now they pay for the goats. LOL. Well, since late May the milk/egg money...
I know the news article stated that one doe died at the scene, and had photos of quite a few animals that looked to be in good shape in vehicles and crates. Of coarse it also said they were headed to a "fair" so it may not be very accurate.
Prayers for Ann. I can't imagine how horrible this...
If you are going for milk and showing I'd go for two does- especially since you may only be able to have two. If you have a wether and a doe and get into showing and milking you are going to want two does, but you won't want to get rid of a wether you are attached to. :p
How much milk do you...
All our goats are registered and we call them something shorter. We didn't name:
Trixie the Lamancha (Trixie pop. As an Aside: If you buy a goat and her name is Trixie, and her Sire is Wicked Revenge beware. There is a reason!)
Black Orchid the ND (Orky or Orchid)
Nim the Grade Lamancha (Nim)...
Just chiming in late. I have a goat who's dams have been bottle raised exclusively for at least three generations. She was a great mom with no previous example of motherhood.
We have two 10ish week bucklings (one that will be our Nigerian herd sire, one Lamancha that is for sale. ) in a quite large pen. Last week we brought over a 2yo Lamancha buck to breed our does. I made the babies their own pen with cattle panel- about 12x12- within the buck pen. Basically a huge...
Well, the Valbazen worked. Yay!
Since they were almost due for their copper I gave them that too. I wormed anyone that was borderline anemic. Now I'm being extra vigilant watching everybody else and keeping up on the herbal wormer.
The doe that had the bottle jaw is feeding twin bucklings and...
Our dogs had learned not to mess with the goats- especially the moms. They have also learned which goats run, and which goats give them the "evil goat eye." Our herd queen most certainly rules the roost and none of the dogs will cross her. Our one Rottie is afraid of the Nigerian Dwarf and won't...
I use a reuseable coffee filter- from Walmart. It's way faster than the paper filters, but very fine. I usually double strain the milk I sell, but I'm just extra picky. I also hand milk and my 10 year old hand milks, so it's not quite as clean as someone with a machine.
I prefer to drink it by...
Nigee babies are 8 weeks. 18 and 19lbs. The second born (Peepiceep) is bigger now, surprisingly, but the spotted first born(Reepicheep) is the boss! Peep has been sold as a wether to a great home. I deliver him next week. I've had several bites on Reep as a herd sire so I'm not making any...
