My sheep have lice....how to treat?

Al Also, the shearer knows where I got my sheep from which was last fall and she insists they didn't come with the lice on them. That they must have picked them up on my farm. I don't have any other animals other than the chickens, guinea fowl and ducks. My neighbor down the road has goats...

My sheep have lice....how to treat?

My two Cotswold ewes were shorn a couple of days ago and the sheerer told me they have lice. She said they must have caught it from my chickens. She said to dust them with poultry dust (pyrethrin). I dusted them yesterday, but today they are still scratching. Does this take a while to work...

Please help me with my fencing needs

I had a fencing company give me an estimate on a fence installation and they told me $5,000! So, I'd like to order the materials and do it ourselves. I have been looking at the high tensile woven wire fences, but have several questions. First, the animals I need to contain are.....sheep...

    Keeping their housing clean

I'm also wondering if I should use diatomaceous earth to keep the house a little drier.

    Keeping their housing clean

Hello fellow animal keepers! Usually I do massive amounts of research before getting into something new, but this time I had to jump at the opportunity before I was complete prepared. I was give two Cotswold lambs a month ago. They are using a wood house that used to be a play house. It's...

    Scrapies Tags

I just adopted two lambs that have scrapies tags. Could I remove them? They will live with me for the rest of their lives. I think they only need the tags if they'll be sold, transported, or slaughtered. If I can remove them, how do I do it?

    Newbie questions!

Actually it's 400 sq ft. 20 X 20 = 400. Right? Good to know! I'm going to work on fencing off the rest of the back portion of the property to let them out in from time to time. My neighbor with the Jack Russells......

    Newbie questions!

Yes, we have wild blueberry and bayberry bushes here. I'd have to first put fencing around that part of the yard, because on occasion, the neighbor's dog gets out. :/ It's am old, small dog, but just want to be sure. We have a major tick problem here (we have guineas and we hatch and release...

    Newbie questions!

My bad! I meant flakes! :P OK, so 1-2 flakes, 1cup of grain and some minerals (free choice?) per sheep. Sounds good!

    Newbie questions!

Thank you all for such lovely replies! Someone I know mentioned she feeds about 1 to 2 bales of hay and about a cup of grain feed per sheep. Does that sound right? She feeds with Blue Seal Shepherd 16. Does that include the minerals? I still need to get a salt lick for sheep? We're...

    Newbie questions!

They will be dry lotted. So, they'll need hay, grain mix, mineral mix (or is the grain and mineral mix the same thing?) and sheep salt. I will love them, play with them and spin their wool!

    Newbie questions!

Hi. I'm expecting two Cotswold lambs next week who were born in the spring. Both are ewes and are from a 4H program. I have a house for them that is 6X8 and we'll be putting up their corral this weekend that will measure about 20x20. I've made them a hay feeder and I have a metal wash bin...
