    New Hampshire

Hi from Salisbury! Sounds like you would do well with raising a couple pigs first, maybe a year or two then if you want sheep them there will be enough land cleared for grass to grow. You will be amazed at how the hogs will clear the land. either way, you will raise some delish, home grown meat...

Hey, I know you too! :D I wanted to ask you before, how are your goat sales? I see you advertise quiet a bit, was wondering if sales kept you pretty busy or so-so? Hubby was thinking of doing goat meat too, but I draw the line. I can only feed/raise so many. LOL. I love my new Dexter cow, but I...

    New Hampshire

I grew up with 30 diary goats.....milked them twice a day. This cow thing is super easy, compared to that! LOL. If you get a smaller cow, you waont have to deal with so much milk. I am sharing with the calf, and taking "only" 2 quarts a day. More than enough for us (milk, cheese, etc). I like...

    small land milk/meat production

I have a small acerage, supplememnt a lot with hay and raise dexters for meat and milk (well, one milk cow anyway!). You CAN do it, it just takes good management. And yes, you will need to find a place for manure, but you would also if you had 10 acres. good luck!

Hi, welcome! I don't come on here very often, and I went back to check my original post. Boy, a lot has changed! I got rid of my angus and highlands.....I am now doing Dexters. I am so in love with the breed, and my milk cow Frannie. I never thought you could like a cow this much. LOL. And the...

    Horse poop...

soaked, rinsed beet pulp is fine. you should join the Yahoo group Equine Cushings. It is for cushings/IR horses but a lot of info for the foundered horse as it goes with both those diseases. Here is the link: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/EquineCushings/ Check it out....it has helped me a...

    Horse poop...

my 23 YO gelding does the same thing. normal poops, just "brown/green water" squirts out before/after pooping. the vet said it is normal in some older horses, she said there is nothing to do for it. I know, kinda gross, huh? Oh, and just to add: he is insulin resistant, has foundered in the...

Drags Back Feet and Trips Or Are We Just Lazy?

Just a thought.....I would have an equine chiropractor look at him. My guy was tripping on his hind end a LOT and it turns out his hips were off. after a couple adjustments, hewas all better! Now all the equines here get regular adjustments, and I feel it keeps them happy and healthy.

    bad news about me

Hi guys, Thanks for thinking of me, but I still have not gotten back on. I still have 3 herniated disks that will need surgery eventually...that in itself might prevent me from getting on but the Neurosurgeon said no more head injuries (and she keeps telling me!). I still have some effects from...

    What should I do?

Also, is she all stretched out "back there"? if the calf was anywhere close to full term, she would be obvious in that area. good luck, it's a pain to lose one (and not be able to find it to boot!).

    Newbie with lots of questions...

Yep......I got rid of the highlands because of that reason. I still have one steer, that is headed for the freezer NEXT fall.......if he makes it that long. I am sick of chasing him. We have 3 strand elctric, and it keep ALL the others in. not him. It has got to be because of the hair. So, I...

Wow, thanks for sharing those pics. that bull is really nice looking, he has docile looking eyes. Those teams are pretty neat too.....I love watching draft animals work. we have a neighbor that pulls his oxen, and he has chianina and chianina crosses. HUGE cattle, and really neat.
