Interesting... we have a horrific invasion of the Spotted Lantern Fly here... they are everywhere... and are very damaging to the vineyards I have learned... as well a couple kinds of trees that I can't remember... but they say they are very very invasive... And the D#@$*D things are not "fly sized".... they are the size of an extra large grasshopper.... they are quick to "spring" and hard to hit to kill... and are quite "hard shelled"...Came across this on my feed - thought you may be interested....

As far as I know they don't cause problems for the bees. In fact they secrete honeydew, honeybees make a very delicious honey out of it. But, they need to be eradicated, they are so destructive. The adults die in the winter.Interesting... we have a horrific invasion of the Spotted Lantern Fly here... they are everywhere... and are very damaging to the vineyards I have learned... as well a couple kinds of trees that I can't remember... but they say they are very very invasive... Yes they are pretty.... but they are ANOTHER invasive PEST...
Someone said they get sick and die if they feed on milkweed...???? That's the plant the monarch butterflies like, right??? DS hates them because they get into the hayfields... but might have to "like them" even if they are considered a weed... if it will help to kill the SLF.... they are as invasive as the crappy stinkbugs that we have everywhere now...
Does the SLF cause problems in the hives for the bees???? They are at least 3x the size of a honey bee....
