Tomorrow Sara will have 3 weeks left. :fl We have built her a small space in our shed to go at night. But when should I start putting her in there at night? Also can I leave her out during the day with the other goats. I know she is going to scream and her friend Patches is going to scream so bad when I seperate them. I will feel so bad. UUUGGHHH.

I put mine up at night at day 140. They stay out during the day with frequent checks. When their ligaments can no longer be felt, they go into the kidding stall and on barn cam 24 hours a day.

Many people dont' lock them up at all, and I leave mine out to lamb outside (I keep my goat in since I *have* to separate right away) and they do just fine! IMO it's not worth stressing them both out, especially if you only have a few goats! Now if it was winter time and cold out or if there were predator issues, then maybe I'd close them in. If not, kidding outside is totally fine!

Thanks. Do you think the mommy will hurt the 6 month old when she gives birth? I was thinking she would be happier staying outside but I am a worrier so trying to do what is best.

I don't put mine up to kid, our kidding pens are more post-kidding pens, I had 4 yearling does kidding, this month, with a couple other does, and 14 -3 month old kids, they can come in the barn, or go out in a 3 acre pasture. I just check on them often.
It is easier at night, to have them closer when it is dark out, so we have a small coral that can be closed up outside the back of the barn at night.

I find the other goats do very well giving them their personal space.

3 are done kidding, one is left to kid. Gosh, it feels like it is taking her forever. After they kid, I may put them in the kidding pen for a day or so, depending on the circumstances.

Ofcourse it is trickier in the winter.

I put my girls in the kidding stall at about day145, unless they have lost ligs before, they can still see each other so they are not alone, but i think they need a space to themselfs to get comfortable..i do pull babies at birth to bottle feed.
