I think they were hatched either the last few days of September or the first few days of October
I brooded 3 day old chicks outside in below freezing weather, but with a MHP (momma heating pad) instead of a heating lamp. You need a heating pad without auto-shutoff. Mine was a Sunbeam, I think, bought from Amaz0n.

No mamas. I bought them as day old chicks, picked them up on day 3 from the breeder.

The brooder was a dog crate, covered in hardware cloth. There's a heating pad attached to a frame underneath the red/maroon pillowcase, the chicks went under it to get warm. Temperature outside dropped into the mid 20s, but the chicks were fine. The cardboard was to protect them from drafts.

This photo is actually from about two weeks after I brought them home.
