We think that he (Beef) is lacking minerals, as his ears, tale are very dry and he is way smaller then he should be. think he is drinking about a pint of milk from our Dexter nurse cow, he also gets 2-3 Lbs of dairy 14 grain and free chose grass hay, but I am not sure that he is eating all of his grain as he is sharing a pen (at night) with a anther calf (the other calf is doing good).

Hope you can help, Please

Seperate the calves so you know if he is getting the grain or not.

Has he been treated for parasites?

What is the breed of this calf? It's history? :ya Is his lower or upper jaw longer than the other, short or deformed legs? If so, this calf may be a dwarf.:th

His dad is Shorthorn and his mom was Jersey and a little bit of Holstein, we think he was born early as he was very small to start with, but that could be because his mom was under wait (she was thin when we got her, [thought we could bring her back to good health] ) and he was her first calf..... He stands a little far back on his front pasterns and has been weak all winter long, he could not get up on his own for a week ( 2 or 3 months ago), we warmed him a week ago, but I guess that will no make much of a difference yet (if it's warms).

Well Jerseys are not real big anyway. That might be a reason why he seems small.
I had a JerseyxHereford and she was small too.

Makes me wonder if he might have a heart condition you saying he was needing to be warmed. Or do you mean wormed him?

His dam could have eaten something too. We had a calf born over 10 years ago. Very small. she could walk under the cows belly and not touch her. He legs were crooked too. Turned out the cow had eaten purple lupine.

Does he walk real stiff like when it is cold?

Can you get a picture of him from the front looking at him?

Had a calf that was stiff and it was purple lupine again. Had to give her some pain killers, but once it got warmer she was fine. Vet said it was like arthritis and it would cause trouble during the cold.
When we sold her at auction we told the buyer what it was and what the vet told us. freaked all the buyers out.

So many noxtic weeds out there that cause trouble during gestation.
