Great news! Cherry Pie, my first milk cow that I got this Sept. let the little black heifer calf suck! I gave the calf half a bottle of milk just to make sure she got some and then when she was still all excited I put her on Cherry, Cherry kicked once because the calf had head butted her. I'm not too sure how to do this though, I didn't milk anything out of her front quarters so the calf could have them, I'm thinking she will have enough if I just let her drink that in the morning. Then I'm not too sure what I'm going to do in the evening feedings, I'm going to let her drink from Cherry tonight and see if her belly looks full if not I'll give her half a bottle? Cherry's calf is still on her, he was born around 9/17, I'm thinking of weaning him and putting the little girl on Cherry. I don't know! :p Any ideas would be helpful!

I played with Pumpkin Rolls udder earlier, it didn't seem to bother her at all. She loved being brushed and LOVES out second cut green hay. She's sweet I'm glad I decided to get her! I really hope she has a heifer calf out of the guernsey bull!

I didn't read this whole thread, but are you currently milking her? If not she should easily be able to nurse 2 or 3 calves. One of our beef cows right now is nursing her twin without any issues. I know guys that used to keep a jersey cow around and buy 3-4 bottle babys at the auction and put them on her.

Yes, I milk her once in the morning, I haven't been getting much though, between a gallon to half a gallon. I only want to put one calf on her and bottle feed the other. I'm thinking of milking her back quarters and letting the black calf have the two front ones two times a day, and wean her current calf? Is that a good idea or does anyone have a better one?

Here are some pictures of the Guernsey and calves! :love

I couldn't resist guys....here are some more pics of Pumpkin Roll. Her back doesn't look bad at all, her front end is a little larger than her back end but I think her back end will fill out a little more. Her hooves aren't over grown, not like that lady's pics showed. I think they need a new camera if it makes their cow look that bad.

Her cute little udder.

That really is a cute little udder :)

Now I must stop looking at the photos, because I want that fawn coloured calf...no room for a cow here...but I want her!
