I've been MIA for a very long time - everything is well, just a very busy time of year for us. Goats are all doing great, but it's just about time to band my little guy - he's 10 weeks now so sometime over the next couple weeks. Flies are horrible this year. Is there anything I can do to try to make it safer for him? I can't put it off until the fall, he'll be much too big by then so it has to be done soon, regardless of the flies.

I banded my two bucklings on July 24th. In anticipation of a fly problem I bought a fly spray to use should it be necessary. Never had to use it once. The testicles are atrophied, but haven't fallen off yet.

I too banded mine in July, but the flies didn't seem to bother him at all.

I did swab him good with Iodine before I put the bands on.

His are atrophied too, but haven't fallen off yet.

I know flies are worse in some areas. Moisture seems to bring them out here.

I just had my boys done last week, so far flies havent been an issue. I do put a little fly spray on the kids in the morning.

I am so glad i got it done they weren't leaving the little doeling alone... :(

There's no bleeding with banding so you shouldn't have a problem with flies.
