That lady tech is the owners daughter. There are 13 kids in the family, some born to the parents, some adopted, some taken in because of bad home circumstances. Outstanding family, about half the kids work in the family business.

I guess I haven’t done too bad myself, my 2 kids split the bill for my new AC. I was going to sell some of my meager investments to come up with the money, but my kids stepped in and took care of it. I’m truly grateful and blessed.

Ain’t this purdy?

Now that is a nice gesture.

They are continuing to grow, as we all well know, they will drop dead with heart attacks. The 10 yesterday were all in the 6-7 pound range, dressed, with 2 over 8 pounds! I’ve cut down on their feed, kinda a hold what I got. I really don’t want to, but thinking another 10 today or even 5. I do them in batches of 5. I scald, drop in plucker, gut and put on ice. 10 slaughtered and in the freezer same day is exhausting, but I’m so close to being done! I’d have to haul guts to the back, trash runs on Friday. I was pushing yesterday to beat the garbage truck!

The plucker beats them up at this size. It rips the skin off, breaks wings and can tear up the meat. I count to 10 and turn off the plucker. Some still have feathers, but I pull them off. Some I only count to 8. It’s that fast! I got an order of 10 chickens completed yesterday and 7 more added to an order of 30, 12 total so far. I still have to package the livers, gizzards, necks and hearts. The lady that ordered 30, also wants all the feet she can get for broth. I can fix her up! I wash them, cut off toenails because I think they are gross, drop in ziplock bag and freeze.

I’m torn between getting more done today and totally wearing myself out or waiting until Monday.

Yesterday after getting done at 5:20, I fed, watered and got myself a big (for me) glass of wine and sat out with the Anatolians.

It's hard, dirty work! 🥴 Seems like you've sold most though. Is there an adjustment on that plucker? Sounds like a beast 😲 I know they help but never have heard that much damage...still better than totally by hand. And yep, they'll just sit there & die at this stage.

That wine was sure earned!!!

Well it ain’t happening today. I’ve been cleaning up my mess, paid bills, went to post office, little piddling things that don’t amount to much but don’t take excessive physical activity. LOL
Hey - that's a lot of ✅'s off the to do list! Should count for something, at least worthy of an iced tea!

We all need to listen to our bodies. I have learned to stop when mine says "enough".
