Had another big oak die over the summer. There goes a cooling patch of shade. Bennet and Peggy came over this morning to take it down. Bennet got started, made the wedge cot to direct the way for the tree to fall. Tree was hollow. Cutting on the backside, it settled down on the chainsaw and pinned it. Bennett got his other chainsaw and the rope broke. He pounded in more wedges trying to free up his other chainsaw.

CRACK!!!

RUN !!

Tree barely missed the fence. It obliterated the stuck chainsaw. I felt real bad. They laughed it off, but I still felt bad. I had a Husky in the shed, hasn’t been cranked in 4 1/2 years, needs a tune up. So I gave it to him with a brand new bar and chain. That made him happy.

WOW -- that first pic is a stunner. Frame it, or frame it and give it to Bennet and Peggy. Good going with giving them your chainsaw.

I think you should frame and hang it too. But, I like the 2nd Pic, it had the whole tree. I'm always on the lookout for a chance to take a picture like that. It was lovely, I'm so sad for you that it died.
Good point! I tend to not center everything, missed the top of the tree (who needs A-Intelligence [because AI is artificial insemination on first read  )

I don't usually center things either, but sometimes it needs to be. The tree needed to be the center! 💗

Not being a breeder, my first read on AI, was A-Intelligence, so total opposite for me. But my eyes have been opened and I see it differently now...lol

Yesterday was church, then a funeral at 1:00, with eulogies given by friends and former coworkers. The man was a game warden for 22 years, a deputy sheriff, manager of 3 different large cattle ranches, cowboy through and through. Beloved by all. Then the 20 miles to the graveside, with deputy sheriff and constables escort. I love east Texas. All along the way, on the opposite side of the highway, everyone pulled off the road and stopped to show respect. The graveside service was short but nice. The preacher sang a solo that was beautiful. I got home with enough time to take a 20 minute nap, then go feed dogs and sheep.

This morning Peggy and Bennett are coming over to drop a large dead oak tree. It died over the summer. We are in drought, no rain for 3 months, grass is brown. Under a burn ban. With no rain, the winter grass is not coming up. I’m glad I have plenty of hay, gonna need it.
Loved the respect. They sometimes do that here, but it's disappearing with an influx of Yankees and young yuppie types.

That second photo can be cropped and adjusted, it's a good shot.
