Monday! I went to my sister’s house in Willis, to celebrate my birthday that was last week, but it was storming.
My sister is moving back to her flooded house. FEMA has not bought her out yet and it’s been a turbulent year for her. She bought another house, totally updated it and it’s beautiful. But it’s not home and she is unhappy. She told me of her decision a week ago and I understand. Downstairs was stripped out to the studs. So it won’t take much to make it livable again.

Electrical work is being done, well is being done, stacks of Sheetrock are waiting to be put up. She’s not going all out on redoing the downstairs because another flood will come and wipe it out again. She’s promised that she will not ride out another hurricane, no more second story rescues out the window. She will go check into a hotel or go stay at a friend’s house.

It will take about 2 weeks to complete the downstairs. My sister is going home. I fully support her on this. I wouldn’t live like that, but for her, it’s worth it.

So we had a great visit, went by her house to check on progress and went to lunch. A friend joined us and we had a good time. Downtown Conroe has had a renovation, no more empty buildings, all are full and thriving. The place she chose was eclectic in decor and we had our picture taken with John Belushi.

OMG - what a nightmare your sister's been through with the flood and her house. I guess at least she will be back in the home she loves. Maybe FEMA dragging it out was a good thing???

If fema hasn't done it yet they probably won't. I'm not sure how much they can do anymore. Word on the street from the govt workers is that powers that be are trying to make it go away completely as part of elimination of "waste" et c. It's probably good she wants to go home. I'm so sorry. I wish she could renovate in such a way that when the waters rise again they won't harm her house and belongings-like a house lift or something...if that would work in Tx.

Tuesday! I was up at 4 AM, out the door and gone by 5 AM. 3 hours to @Ridgetop’s house. Got there at 8:00. Knock! Knock! Knock!

The dogs, Hazine and Ozel barked at me, so I went to the fence, talking sweet, they sniffed my hand, Oh, it’s you! They wagged tails and I petted them.

Had a cup of coffee while Ridgetop and her DH got ready. They showed me their cross fence and it is impressive. Ozel wasn’t sure about the jump gate, but Ridgetop coaxed her and she jumped through it. Hazine looked at Ozel with a look that plainly said, Let the dummy do it.

The pasture walk and presentation was only 4 miles from their house. It was held in a big metal building, former tractor and equipment storage for a dairy. The pasture walk was breathtaking, maybe not for most people, but for livestock owners, it was fabulous. The wide variety of plants was fantastic. Deep lush greenery, tall grasses, birds, cattle and sheep.

The person over the pay outs for her area died, so far no one has taken her place. She went on a rant about FEMA. She’s looked all over Conroe, trying to find a place to buy. High taxes, in a flood plain, half a million dollars, packed in a subdivision, nothing was ringing her bell. In the middle of her rant, I told her what if she did get bought out, they tore down her house and she couldn’t find anything to buy. She thought about that and decided I was right. LOL

Her house is on a slab. Can’t raise it. When the next flood comes, she promised she would leave, go back after the water went down.

The whole thing's been kind of poopy for her. I bet she gave them her paperwork long ago and it just sat and sat and sat until it was too late. IDK how impassable the roads between you become, but at least you're sort of near by. Hopefully they won't flood again for a long time.
