A nearby cow has been moooing since early morning. Non stop. Never had heard a one of them moo before. Could something be wrong?

It is a beef cow and he is still going right now.

Ah, never thought of that. I looks like a rather young cow.

Could be one of last year's calves. In which case she wouldn't have been bred and calving now, if the rest are. I know here it's calving season.

Is there a certain time of year beefers get sent off? I think that may be the problem.

Reasons a cow moos:
1. Mom has lost a calf and can't find it
2. Calf has been removed to be weaned/sold and mom is calling
3. Cow/bull is hungry/thirsty
4. Cow/bull is lost/separated from the herd for any reason
5. Cow/heifer is in heat

Thanks. It has been 12 hours straight. I think the older cows have been taken away. So "separated from the heard" is probably why.

reason a cow moos- continued...
6. Cow is in labor. However, the extent of a cow's mooing in labor is in no way correlated to how severe the calving is. Some are just wusses and complain a lot. Most cows in labor do not moo. Most cows with severe calving problems take it stoically.

Reason cows moo-continued.....

7. Because it's spoilt rotten and thinks you have nothing better to do than hand out treats!

8. Because it's either too lazy or too stupid to go around the fence and thru the gate it has been through a miilion times, to get it's calf that is mooing back.

9. Because it's raining, and it can stay drier if it stands under cover and moo for the calf that is fifty feet away under cover, mooing back.

ROFL.. let's keep this one going...

10. Because you are 5 minutes late with the feed bucket.
11. Cow is at the fairgrounds and wants to go home. ( There is one every year!)
