Understand that any LGD you may acquire will need adequate fencing to contain them. They are notorious for getting out and not coming back. That said, if I was recommending one for friend or family who’d not had one before, I would probably suggest a Maremma as they are still pretty user friendly without being quite as reactive as breeds from further east. They are more forgiving of human error while providing a reasonable learning experience.
