Got my first 12 hour fill on Willow! Only 12 days fresh. I'm pretty happy with her udder. Biggest thing I would change is teat placement, when her udder is really full it makes it hard to aim into the pail. And she could have better side attachments. But it's definitely an improvement on all of my past goats. I got about 5 cups which is about 2.5 lbs but she was holding back. She'll easily make over a half gallon a day her first freshening.

She looks good to me! But what do I know. My milking experience is limited to trying to get colostrum out of a wild ewe for the baby she rejected.
Thank you! I think she looks pretty good too. Although I'm still learning and the world of dairy goats is a very complicated place.

I've tried milking a semi wild ewe, so I know what a rodeo that is. 😅

I did my first disbudding this week! I was dreading it a little but thankfully a kind couple came and showed me how to do it. They were very thorough and helped me be successful. It was not too difficult, mainly just nerve-wracking because you're having to put a 1000 degree iron on a tiny baby goat's head. I'm so glad I could learn hands on instead of just watching videos!! And now I don't have to pay the vets to do a lousy job with CALF disbudding irons. 🤦🏻‍♀️
The baby I did by myself is doing great! (Much to my relief)

Goat update! Everyone is doing pretty well, bottle babies are growing and always hungry. They are drinking so much milk! 😳 I want to get rid of three of them, but unfortunately they all have mites right now. I'm treating with injectable ivermectin, Nustock and hot lime sulphur dip. It's been quite the year for external parasites. I already had to treat everyone for lice. I'm going to take a lot of preventative measures next year to make sure it doesn't happen again. Right now my biggest concern is keeping the sheep from getting it because it would be a nightmare to have to treat them. Everyone is changing clothes after being with the goats and before going into the sheep pen. Hopefully that will be enough, and I'll also be supplementing the sheep with sulphur in their mineral.
My hardworking mamas are giving us a gallon and a half a day kid sharing. I'm enjoying milking so much, but because of some injuries with my sister, I'm doing it all myself and that can get tiring. So I bit the bullet and ordered a milk machine. It arrives this week and I'm excited to see how it goes! Having a machine will make travel easier since I won't have to teach whoever watches the farm how to milk, and it will make it possible for my sister with her injuries and my dad (who wouldn't be able to hand milk the nigies tiny teats) to help me out.

Willow, my mini Nubian, continues to impress me. She's giving me a quart and a half with a 12 hr fill and her udder has improved so much in just a couple of months! I love watching FF udders mature. Her capacity changed so much too. The first several fills she was leaking by the next morning and I had to scale back to 11 hours to prevent it. Now she still has a bit of room after 12-13 hours and she milks out like a hose.

First fill, 12 days fresh
