Gizmo was a great choice to add to the family. She and Boone were arguing over the pile of antlers I keep inside to calm them down, so Boone the Problem Solver, used his new skills of holding the door open with his foot while grabbing items, systematically took every one of them outside to his cache, knowing Gizmo can’t open the door.

Never argue with Boone. He will always win.

Boone spent this morning carrying random items from my left side to sell me on my right side. He’s not pleased to see Gizmo get treats for not working when he has to work his tail off for them. Life is so unfair!

I’ve been going through horrendous pain flares, either from the weather and barometric changes or from being stressed out over my son. I pray for him but it feels like I’m in an echo chamber.
At any rate, the pain eased up this afternoon. I spent the last couple days just moaning in my chair with Gizmo on my lap and Boones feeling pretty left out, so we played “find it” with long back scratcher today and he enjoyed that and then I had him look for my neck pillow a few times, and he got chew on his freeze bone in his crate for a while. Once he was feeling better about himself, I put him outside and tried playing with Gizmo because up until today she’s never played with us. I found a noisy ball that she likes and she’s very very fast so she likes to retrieve the ball and bring it to me, but she won’t bring me anything else…yet. I got the squirrel log out and she had fun pulling all the little squirrels through the holes and squeaking them and then I found a ball that has a bunch of holes and each hole, has a tug in it and she had a ton of fun with that.Boone came inside and dragged her around the house for a while with it until she got witchy and then I put them all away. They’re both happily tired now.
I need to make a really good tug to play with her so I can get her to learn to open the door and start bringing me stuff.

I have been suitably chastised. I was texting when Gizmo jumped up on the bed behind me. She started with a murmur then had to resort to outright growling and I still failed to pay attention to her. She actually had to jump on me and knock the phone out of the way.
I will try to do better going forward…

I’m gonna need to make a vet appointment and find a therapist for Boone as I’m pretty sure he’s gonna have PTSD after today. The cowboy across the way with the new baby came over with friends and family to see the ducks, rabbits, etc. They came through the side gate in front of the window. The dogs went nuts, Gizmo on top of her crate, egging Boone on. Neither were listening to us and Randy smacked Boone on the butt with the paper in his hand. Boone immediately ran to me and buried his head in my chest. Pretty sure he’s gonna need x-rays, maybe even an MRI, just to rule out any internal injuries. He is clearly traumatized by the vicious attack when he was only doing his job, protecting ducks and rabbits we don’t want…Randy’s not even licensed to carry a paper pamphlet. Should report him and have his a$$ thrown in jail for Boone abuse…
