What is the general agreement on bucks making milk taste off? I've heard that it does and I've heard that it doesn't. I just wanted to know how far away I need to plan the buck and doe areas. I'd like to have them as close together as possible. The goats will be nigerian dwarfs, if that matters :D

If the doe smells bucky, and you rub your hands on her, and then get your hands in the milk - it'll taste bucky.

Our bucks live next to our does, they rub up against e/other's fencing, etc...and our milk is not bucky.

My bucks share a fenceline with the does and it absolutely does not affect the flavor of the milk. Keep everything clean and chill your milk as quickly as possible and the flavor shouldn't be affected.

If your dairy practices are good and you keep things clean there is no issue with off taste. Blaming the buck is an excuse and little more.

Also be sure not to shake or agitate your milk as it can contribute to an off flavor. When milk is fresh and properly handled it shouldn't taste goaty, regardless of where your bucks are located.
