Today it's been raining here, COLD rain. Final amout at 5:00pm is 1.5"

This morning I ran errands with my co-pilot, first stopped at Petco as I had a gift card.

Caleb kept marking, probably answering other dogs' pee-mails. :\

He got lots of petting from other customers, part of his socializing.

I got some spray "stuff" for Caleb's Kong toy, but also bought him a new Kong chew. The Kong toys are about the only type/brand of chew he's not destroying!

You can see Caleb's WHITE eyelashes in this photo. His left eyelashes are dark, match the dark patch on the side of his face.

Next stop was the credit union, to cash a check. And we made it back to the vet's office before the lunch cutoff. Caleb's foster had pointed out that he'd only gotten two weeks of Doxycycline for his heartworms, and when I messaged the vet, he responded that she was correct, and an additional two week prescription would be waiting for me at the counter. The adoption paperwork from the county was vague, and so I'm glad she followed up with me. I didn't know.

The vet techs came out into the almost empty waiting room to love on Caleb. He soaked it up. BUT he snapped at a dog by the door, which surprised me. I yanked him back and reprimanded him.

He's still adjusting.

Later the rain had stopped and so I took Caleb in the back yard with his soccer ball and his 50' leash. He had a great time chasing and retrieving the ball, with me only having to "reel" him in once...for a cat distraction. I got the long leash for recall work.

Has it really been less than a week?

Tough toys --
Bumi (a fave of my dogs) - from West Paw they have a lot of other things as well - all are excellent

Goughnuts - I have a "stick" for lack of a better word that is God only knows how many years old and always played with. I should get another one of these days - it looks like I could replace it sometime.

Those are "outside toys" they play outside with them and leave them outside - so they get the brunt of the Southern California sun and heat.

Inside chew toys - Benebone - wishbone. they LOVE these - they last about a month.
Search Amazon for all of these. Long lasting and loved by dogs.

Caleb acted up this afternoon and evening. Upon reflection the stimulation of Petco may have been too much, too early. I recalled this evening that he does need time and patience to adapt to a new situation.

Fresh start tomorrow, nothing planned but home activities.

We just had a WOW experience.

Caleb gets very focused when he sees a kitty or squirrel, very tense, staring, but still. I took him for a walk in the back yard, leashed, and one of our TNR cats, Wisp, followed us though not directly behind us. I took Caleb to the opposite side of the yard, where he did a lot of sniffing. As we were walking back towards the house Caleb noticed Wisp, sitting nonchalantly in our path. Caleb froze, totally rigid, staring, tense. I said nothing, didn't shift my hold on the leash. It was probably close to 30 seconds, Caleb relaxed and looked up at me, and I PRAISED HIM!

We walked on towards the gate, and Wisp sauntered over, sat close to the gate, and mewed. Caleb froze, went into the alert state again, but just a few seconds later relaxed, looked up at me, and I PRAISED HIM!

And then Caleb came inside, and while lying at my feet, ripped a piece out of the living room rug.

Good thing it's a cheapie I bought at Aldi's
