Caleb's Chronicles

My sisters used to think I was crazy, meeting people I'd befriended through the internet. But meeting people you've conversed with for months, and in public locations, isn't as risky as they used to think. I first met AOL friends in 1997. Never had a bad experience.
I need to meet friends some way. Since loosing my partner it's just me and the cows and dogs. I don't really have any friends. I don't have much in common with my co workers either.

I have a safe secure fenced front yard, one, for Carson when I am not home and two, for visiting dogs. The rules for visiting dogs are: from your car door to my back door. No walks outside, this is a working ranch. Buford barks a warning at the unknown dogs in "his" yard, the whole place is his! Dogs are welcome in the house, there is a large dog crate, if needed (where I keep bottle lambs)

I don't allow visiting dogs to roam, if it is ok for them to have the run of the place, then I couldn't expect Buford to tell the difference between them or strays. This past weekend I hosted 2 dogs and a cat. My friend chose to put her cat in the large dog crate. The dogs were house trained and well behaved. They went outside to potty and sniff around, Buford barked a warning an I guess they listened.

Join some agricultural organizations. Check for NRCS meetings and such. I'm going to a Grazing Land Coalition field day today, 3 hours away. You might meet people, make friends and have something in common with them.

I'm retired now, but had nothing in common with most of my coworkers. I keep in touch with one, we worked together for 17 years, but she's in stage 4 metastatic cancer, so it's mostly communicating by text messages now. I'm friendly with people from church, but not friends. Most of the other single/widowed oldered women have different interests from mine, so we don't mingle apart from church activities. Not anyone's fault, it just IS.

I find friendships with like-minded people, whether in RL or online. I can TALK and be myself here, that's why I love this place.

One thing I have always joked about... is I go to the cattle auctions because they are my social life...:hide:hide:gig

I do go to meetings, seminars about cattle things, grazing, etc... and poultry things.
