We're having our T.giving today instead of yesterday.
I'm thankful for that because I'm still finishing up the last bits of cleaning the house & yard and preparing the food. As usual, it's been more nocturnal. I was up at 1 this AM decorating the dining room & getting all the clean sofa & easy chair covers put back on.
It's 9am. I'm heading out to get the mower & cart out and collect all the piles & odd bits laying around in the yard.... Did I tell yall I finally got a riding mower?
Then rake the path to the house & clean/ decorate the porch.
Then a trip to the dumpsters & Dollar General.
After that, it'll be time to start heating things in the crockpots.... and probably a quick nap.

Oops! Forgot!!! 😱 gotta clean the bathroom too

Welcome Back...... been a few weeks from a post here on your thread ! Nope, no info on the riding mower... what did you get ? I really do love my Greenworks battery one...
The mower is a John Deere. It's got some issues but I think it's going to get the job done.

I've been training at work. I had no idea how exhausting this could be. Explains why my trainer just let me figure things out for myself I guess. Everything I do now has to be done slowly & with a detailed explanation of what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, why I'm not doing it another way, etc. Then a lot of time spent watching him try things & coaching him through things.... and fixing things that didn't work yet. He's doing great though.

Thanksgiving was a success. My sister had invited her in-laws. I was really nervous. I had only met them briefly a time or two. It ended up that they all arrived almost 2 hrs early 😱. All in all, everyone seemed to have a good time. Everything was prepped & almost ready except the dressing. There was no way to bring that from refrigerator cold to baked in a hurry. Luckily they had brought Stove Top. 🤔 No worries. Now I've got a whole casserole dish of my favorite part of the meal to enjoy.

And now I've got 2 1/2 days to enjoy. The house is spotless. The fridge is stuffed with delicious leftovers. Some of the outside cleanup projects are done.

Ugh 😵‍💫

Had a terrible night at work. Line issues - never did run more than 5mins before having to stop & fix. Supervisor called it around 10:30, Shut it down. Cleaned around the machine for a couple hours, then struggled to stay awake. Day shift arrived talking 💩. 'I'm sure our Beamer will know what to do.', 'We'll have it fixed up for you', etc 🙄
Stopped by T.S. & grabbed 3 bales, my hay guy is having a delivery/schedule conflict & might be a couple more days and I'm almost out. Stuffed them in my little car..... it will never be the same.
Got home, busted a bale & tossed into the hay remaining in the feeder..... no Eva. 😱 No fence down, no gates open.... no clue which direction to start looking.
Decided to start behind the neighbors - she's headed in that general direction a couple times before when she's gotten out.
No luck.
Went a little farther down the road & there she was - in the middle of a huge field about 3/4 of a mile from the house.
I shook a bucket of feed & slowly led her home with the bucket out of the window. 🥶
I had no sooner gotten her back in the pasture when a pickup came barreling up the drive & this man is barking out the window at me.
Is that your cow? Is she the one that was out?
I tried to explain that I had no idea how she had gotten out, he cut me off. "A cow will walk through a fence"
I tried to say that was very unusual for Eva, he cut me off again. "You got a bull with her? They'll walk off if they come in heat"
I didn't even get his name. I tried to thank him for caring enough to make sure she was home safe. He cut me off again - "yea, well she's back now then" and left.
I'm frozen. I'm exhausted. I'm upset that I don't know how she got out. I'm upset that maybe - after all this time being content as an only cow... maybe she IS lonely? I'm too keyed up to ever get any sleep... and I've got to leave at 6 for another shift. I really hope she's home when I get home Wed AM. 🥺
