A door would be easy to make. All you need is 1x4s and hardware cloth for the door and 2x4s for the frame.

This is how I built a hoop coop in Lindale. Check out the door. Make a 2x4 door frame, you can cleat the side pieces to the top piece with 1x4 pieces on the inside. Measure the opening, make your door one inch less wide.

You can do this!

Work weekend - Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. The cool weather has been a huge relief!!!! This was also the day shift's brand newly certified Beamer operator's first weekend working alone. Poor thing was completely overwhelmed & left it in a MESS Fri & Sat nights. I made sure to encourage him, especially since everyone else was being pretty hard on him. He finally started to get a handle on it Sunday so Sun night was MUCH better.
Then I came home and when I went to let the chickens out the smell in there nearly gagged me!!!! WTH!?!?!?
Turned out one of my hens had an injury around the base of her leg. With the quick visits before & after work to let them in & out over the last 3 days, I failed to notice. Now it was infected & the flies had gotten to it...
I feel horrible!!!! She was so sick. I decided to euthanize rather than put her through what seemed to surely be hopeless treatment. Poor girl. I failed her.
So much for breakfast. I can't seem to get rid of the smell. Long hot shower didn't help. Must be in my nose.

Sorry about your chicken - Ya' know you did a quick cursory check when you did quick visits before and after work, chance are she wasn't limping or acting really bad. Those are things that we all notice right away without checking.

Chickens don't let you know when they're sick or hurt, they hide it. Don't be hard on yourself.

I'm sorry :hugs

Showed up to work tonight to find out that the bathrooms on this end of the building are closed again. They are finally doing the promised remodel. Expecting it to take 5 weeks or more.
FIVE???? It's just 2 little closets, each with 1 toilet & 1 sink? 🤷‍♀️
Anyhow, luckily I've scheduled vaca during 2 of those weeks. 1 week will be spent with my sister in law & her hubby. The other was originally going to be the time with my sister that got shortened & moved up to a few weeks ago. That'll give me a long weekend to get some 'loving on the farm' done.

I saw a paw paw tree at a nursery, and thought of you. BUT I saw it in PA, and I doubted I could stuff a 6-7' tree in the rental car...

I appreciate that you thought about it.
I'm still hunting for a couple. My only choices ever seem to be: tiny little dead sticks in solo cups for a ridiculous price or 3' tall in huge 5gal pots for 10x the ridiculous price.
.... seriously, $60‐$100 for a 2'-3' tree that likely won't survive transplant????

I keep hunting along the creek beds hoping to find some already here.

Check the local cooperative extension and universities for plant sales.
