Have had the best time having Vickie & Glenn (my sister-in-law & her hubby) visit for a week.
Huge photo dump
Thursday night after they arrived we went to the local Italian place for a feast.
Friday we went up to Richmond to put flowers on her mother's grave. We hit TONS of construction going & coming back & it took FOREVER. We stopped at Gloden Corral for a late lunch & they took a nap after getting home. I pulled a huge pile of weeds out of the herb & asparagus beds.... then killed the mower trying to mulch them up.
Saturday we went to Smithfield for the farmers market & all the cute shops on main street.
Sunday was church, a big'ol pot roast dinner at home with Dad, then ice cream that evening at the Tasty Freeze.

Today was a trip back to Westover Plantation. I rented the 'west wing' there for years, was there while dating my Bob & got married on the grounds. I joke that he married me just to get access to that beautiful place . We wandered around there for a couple of hours, said hi to the daughter of the couple who owned it when I was there, visited the barn where our wedding reception was & took lots of pictures.
What's left of one of the 200 yr old tulip poplar trees
They were lost, one by one, during the last several hurricanes.
The small section on the left was mine for about 10yrs. It was originally the laundry & kitchen down stairs & servant quarters upstairs. Just 4 rooms, a stairwell & a tiny bath squeezed in on top of the landing upstairs.
The beautiful barn & stable.
The Necessary House. A huge luxury of an 8-holer WITH a fireplace.
... and it's still occasionally in use today as it is the only 'facilities' available on the property unless there is an event where port-o-potties brought in.

The driveway. It's 2.2 miles long. Most of it is through beautiful old woods. The last 1/4 mile or so is lined with lawn & old trees.

Then we stopped by & left flowers on Bob's marker
Resting this evening & she's getting laundry done before heading home tomorrow morning.

Lol, yes, there was a small bathroom at the top of the stairs.
Looking at the pict of the front of 'the wing' - the living room (with a washer & dryer taking up 1 corner) is the downstairs left. The kitchen is the downstairs right. There is a bedroom on each end upstairs. The stairs were in the middle & the tiny bath and a narrow hall was between the bedrooms at the top of the stairs.

What a great week! I’m so glad you had such a wonderful time. Beautiful place, full of good memories.
