Tues AM.
Vaca is over.

I've got today to get some things done here now. Getting the mower running is top priority.
And this evening I've got to go to the store for supplies to get back on my diet! I'm scared to get in the scale..... one thing for sure - we eat GOOD when we get together

WHOOPS!!!!
I had counted wrong and Wendy the broody hen was 'scheduled' to hatch next week..... but there was peeping in the nest box last night!!
I drug the giant plastic dog crate down there this AM & moved the nest box in there with a piece of cardboard covering the door about 3" high to keep them contained if they happen to leave the nest today.
A count of how many & picts tonight or this weekend.

The driveway. It's 2.2 miles long. Most of it is through beautiful old woods. The last 1/4 mile or so is lined with lawn & old trees.

The latest additions.
Mama Wendy took them out of the nursery on day 2 despite my best efforts to contain them. Granted, I was sick as a dog Wed night & all day Thurs so... not really my best efforts. . But, in spite of my worrying she is taking good care of them.
There are 3 black, 4 chipmunk & 1 cream.

Since she abandoned my attemps to provide chick-sized feed & water, I've improvised. I lowered the big girl's water to 1 brick high & put a chick waterer next to it. They figured it out. One is drinking out of the big cups.

There is a space under the big girl's feeder... a little tunnel between the bricks. I'm tossing chick feed under there for them. Any time Wendy comes to the feeder, they go in there an get crumble, plus whatever she's teaching them to forage & the crumbs from the pellets.

In a couple of days I'll be watching my hen herd her chicks around they're still hatching. Only 5 eggs total, that's fine. Could have given her more but, didn't need these!! Already have a 12 from spring. Love to watch them tho real teachers!

Speaking of teachers -- how's your training going at work? That new stuff. Still on days?

It's been a lot of years since we had hens and chicks!

We had 3 years of babies from our peacock and Peahen. Sold them all last fall. I miss them.

Well...... training is totally up in the air at the moment. I was home sick Thursday. And that would've been the day that I got instructions for next week while she is on vaca. I will either be in the lab working from written instructions Tues-Thurs or they'll shut it down for the week & I'll be on the Beamer.
I feel bad about it... more because of my work ethic & feeling like they are/were depending on me than any responsibility to the lab or Angie.
Days will continue for the foreseeable future. My regular schedule will be with A-shift once this is all over. IF they decide that I can run the lab alone, I'll be randomly pulled up there when she's on vaca.

Wendy hatched 8 chicks? Wow. All home laid eggs, no outside sources? Nice job, Wendy!
