so. ill
a friend said he had read that carrots are a no-no for rabbits. i have been giving pieces to mine for a couple of months and have noticed nothing except they dance when they see me feeding the first one. how are they bad???

we ve always gave carrots to our rabbits,
bugs bunny eat em and he seems to have lived a long and prosperous life

CArrots aren't bad, per se. they are a sweeter veggies, so therefore keep them to a minimum or you might get fat rabbits. What rabbits really like though, are the carrot tops.

I chucked carrots to my rabbits all the time and those pets lived like to 12-14 years old. No ill effects I ever saw and yes they loved them and good for their teeth all that biting action.

Yes, that's true. If the bunns chew on something hard, it will keep their tooth growth in check. apple branches and the like are also goofd for this too--that wasy ou won't need to trim their teeth--not something I ever want to do.

thanks for the back up. i didn't think they could be bad for them, just wanted to be sure. yes will keep to a minimum, but in this cold weather a bit extra can't hurt, and they like them sooo much. :D

Not to my knowledge. I often giver table scraps, aka, caulflower and brocolli stumps etc to my bunns, even when the kits are in ther ewith the mommas. No ill effects.

However, if you have a rabbit who is NOT used to getting fresh produce, andyou give them a whole bunch, they can get sick and even die. So do it gradually.

In cold weather the buns can actually use a little sugar like they get from root veggies. It helps them generate heat. In warm weather they should only be used as an occasional treat. Anything in the cabbage family should be used with caution. The excess water can cause diarrhea or kidney damage. Introduce it gradually so their systems can get used to it.

I have heard that feeding rabbits veggies before they are 6 months old is bad. Is that true?
No.
