I like to give my pet angora rabbit some run around time in the fenced backyard when the weather permits. Sometimes she grazes on the grass, weeds and clover, but most of the time she just digs. There are a few places where she's been digging where I haven't stopped her much because she can't escape (under my daughter's swingset and against the house behind her hutch.) I thought eventually she would stop when she had a nice depression to lay down in, but she doesn't. If I fill in one of her holes, she digs it up again.

I put up some temporary fencing under a shade tent so she can romp around in it when we're outside, but she's digging that area up, also. When I go to remove her from where she's digging she grunts and boxes at me (and then I get my heavy gloves on.)

Anyone else experience this? I'm starting to think she'd dig up the entire backyard if given the chance. Maybe she really wants to make a burrow in the backyard?

It's an inborn trait. Unlike native US rabbits the European rabbits live in communal interconnected burrows. I had to laugh at my neighbor who let them run wild in the yard. One day she was watering her lawn and the wole thing collapsed into a shallow pit. Made for some wet POd bunnies.
