Yesterday I tedded at both fields, then went and raked the big hay field that is next to the one we got baled before the rain last Thurs. Then went to rake the smaller field as DS tedded it again after he got off work.
He got the big field baled and I got the smaller one raked and he had some baler problems in the big field and had the baler get all hay jammed in and took awhile to get it undone... I had finished raking the smaller field and went to check on the cow and put the chickens in. Also went to get milk and take him the info on the cows that had processed through the computer system from the test when I got his milk to send off...

Seems DS got sick, probably the heat, and wound up finally getting the bigger field done and did not get the smaller one baled... and guess what... YUP... it rained last night... about .15 inches... enough to get it wet... He texted me this morning after I had asked if he needed anything last night when I got home from getting the milk and he said he was okay....
I don't know exactly what all went on last evening... he did have Colt with him for awhile and I went to get my wallet out of the car up in the hayfield after I finished raking the smaller field... because.... when I went by the gas station, the price had gone from 3.17 to 3.39 at one place... WHAT.... $.22 increase???? So I needed my wallet to take the red forester to fill it up, it was almost empty... and then took the explorer to fill up as it was down to 1/2... at the other station that was still 3.17....
The gate at the field he was baling was not shut the way I left it, but he said the sister came and got her son, Colt, to take home since he was having trouble with the baler and he had had Colt for several hours. I didn't know who had gone in the gate and didn't see anyone when I got my wallet.

So he said he didn't go to work today since he was so sick last night... I think it may have been heat exhaustion... it was very muggy and I felt it some also...

He said he would go up and tedd it out this afternoon... I had texted him to see how he felt... after I tried to call and he didn't answer... and I asked why he said he was okay in the text the night before, if he was sick why didn't he just tell me...finally answered me and said he thought he would eat a little, drink and get cooled off, and be okay......

I just got a text a little while ago that he had tedded it out, could I get it raked tomorrow as it was pretty dry (we didn't have too much rain so it didn't get as soaked as it might have), so I texted back and said I would do it in the morning as I had a Dr appt at 2:30 and then was going to test the farm close to there on the way home. He says that we are going to get storms tomorrow eve........ the local station is saying after 2 pm... and I am not going to question him anymore on it. I never would have cut either one of them until after this round of "20-30% possible storms" was past... but what do I know. I just want to get this one piece finished up...

:heI will do the raking in the morning... ought to take 1 to 1 1/2 hrs... then come home, get a shower and go to chiropractor and go from there to the farm on the way home... It will be dark probably by the time I get home. Friday I do not have anyone scheduled... and Sat I am doing 2... yep... need my head examined... Morning one is easy... 2 hours, 100 cows, no set up...milking at 5 a.m..... farmer called and it is their weekend to milk.... this is the farmer that has been battling the colon cancer......I said whatever he wanted... The afternoon one is 240 cows... set up 12 meters.. have to be there about 12:30... milking at 1:30..... takes a long time. This afternoon farm is one that I have to contact several times to test... and they usually take their sweet time to get back to me. I hadn't even bothered to contact them yet and all of a sudden it is "how soon can we test" in a text yesterday... REALLY ?????.... GRRRR:he:he:rant:rant:barnie:smack:smack:somad

I have been in contact with the farm I had to cancel that Monday when I had my first Dr appt... and they are fine and I said I ought to be able to handle it next week.... so just waiting to hear what day suits them best. They are the best people....

So, I came home, got the samples in the house and will need to get them packed to go out. Get bottles in trays for tomorrow.
Played with the kittens a little and they had food still and their little tummies were round... put chickens in the crates and came in.
All 3 are laying... been getting a dark brown pullet egg and a lighter brown pullet egg from the 2 RI Red pullets... and a slightly larger cream/lt brown egg from the light brahma pullet that is nearly a hen I guess... 2 are laying in the brahma's crate and the dark brown pullet egg has been in the crate the RI Reds go in at night. At least I am not searching for them everywhere... Rooster has calmed down a bit but I am not trusting him much. Hope his little show of aggression was just "teenage" growing show off crap.

Need to find time for the garden... maybe Friday?

Noticed that gas was up at several of the stations on the way up to test cows this afternoon.... but the 2 stations here were still at 3.17 and the other was still at 3.39....

It was 67 and up to 88 this afternoon on recording thermometer, but the humidity was like 85%.... It clouded up and looked like rain but nothing at the farm there. In the text to confirm the test for Sat afternoon, they said they got a good soaking this afternoon... 15 +/- miles away... SOOOO spotty crazy showers.

Going to get a shower and then get the samples packed tonight.... one less thing to do in the morning. My legs feel like jelly since this was the first real "test" since pinching that sciatic nerve... but I did okay except got real tired the last 1/2 hour... but no mishaps and pulled the meters and all off the wash line after the cycles had run and was okay.... Hopefully I will sleep good tonight.

We've had those iffy showers here, too. Some heavy ones for maybe an hr, then sunshine on puddles. Soaks in pretty fast. Grass is loving it. Had couple hours of it late day yesterday and grass is soooo wet this morning!! Still need water boots and it's close to 8am. It'll be 11 before this get near dry 🥴 sloppy wet in tall grass. That part is annoying when you have to walk through it first thing and you're all wet for the day. The animals can't eat enough!

Weather has been wet this year, but it keeps hay and grass growing so that is good as long as you can cut and bale around it. Also good for gardens.
Y’all are lucky that you have had rains. Talking to hay guys yesterday and the outlook is not bright here. It probably won’t rain until fall. My sheep are dry lotted, off the field. One guy buys and resells, but doesn’t want to go out further than 50 miles or fuel and miles (wear and tear) gets too expensive.

I found Bahia nearby, fertilized, first cutting and fairly weed free. 4x5 bales for $65. I’m jumping on that and getting hay for the winter and this dry summer!

Cody expects to get another cutting here and I will buy from him then. He knows I want some but I need to let him know how many round bales. How many bales do you think I will need for 50 sheep and 3 horses? From January to grass regrowth.

Don't know with round bales of grass hay. I only know alfalfa. No alfalfa in Texas. LOL

In Yantis we have had heavy rains - 3 1/2" on Tuesday night before we pulled in, and again last Sunday another 2-3". Whether we get anymore is anyone's guess. Pastures are good right now but we are bringing the sheep back in January when pastures will be dormant. I will need hay then.

I need to reserve my hay now with Cody from the second cutting. I need to find out what size round bales he made so I can figure out how much to order. Everything is new here in Texas for figuring out feed for the sheep. I might also have to put them on some sort of supplemental feed to make up for the protein difference between alfalfa and Bermuda/Bahia.
