HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone... ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿž๐Ÿž๐Ÿž๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿฅง and MORE.....

Tested yesterday morning... it was surprisingly comfortable in the barn... SOOO GLAD it wasn't today's colder temps...

Came home and got samples packed.... Went to the pasture and fed some grain.... Looked at the carpentry work that DS and that friend did on the barn... It has needed some work done to it for several years and it was a matter of getting it done or it was going to fall apart pretty soon. Roof needed tin, had some old used tin that he repurposed up there... fixed the doorways that the cows had torn apart since they always have to try to go out 2 at a time through a 1 cow width door... stuff that was rotten on the bottom and it really was slowly coming apart at the seams. Since DS also feels the effects when we are working calves or moving cows in and out of there... it benefits him also... but mostly it benefits me and working with the cows and the calves there. The owner doesn't care if it falls down, they have no use for it... but it really has been a blessing for me working with the nurse cows, and baby calves and then getting, sorting and moving cattle in and out of there.... Just have to fix a few places in the fences in the lots where there are broken boards... just "age" catching up with them....

Went to UPS with the samples and the traffic was miserable. There was another wreck or something on the interstate, so traffic on the local roads was 10x worse... not accounting for the fact of people doing last minute stuff for the holiday, and normal going home from work, and then those traveling. I was very very glad to get home...

Stopped at the dumpster and tossed a couple more bags of junk/trash.

We only got .1 inch of rain from the showers Tues night into Wed... really hoped we would get a more significant amount... The wind yesterday would have sucked all that right back off the ground. I had put all the spider plants out to get a good watering... Yeah, NOT......

Brought all them back in last night... they had a good day out in the sun and warmth... and it is a good thing as it got down to 31 last night... with the wind chill colder...
The wind blew so hard... gusts up to 45 or more... it sounded like the house was being battered from all sides. I am sure there will be more limbs and all to pick up out there... Today is only supposed to be in the 40's and tonight down in the 20's....

The temps will be good for the hunters.

Just ate a bowl of cooked oatmeal... Going to a friend's for T-day this evening... DS and I, as she is doing turkey with her family, and he does not go because of her father... he told me that they had a discussion about it, and that if this was the way things were going to be that he was going to start doing things on the holidays with his friends... she just says "you know how dad is".... so that's that....at least for now... always subject to change with her.... her father is no longer allowed to hunt on the properties/farms... he wouldn't do the asked for 1 day of cutting cedars at the one place.... in exchange for hunting privileges... DS told him he could get firewood off the farm if he would come and cut it up himself... he came and got some that DS and Jim had cut up a few years ago... never cut any himself... DS said that was it...at least he is sticking to that...

He let a friend bring his 11 yr old... son or maybe grandson... last Sunday morning and the kid got his first deer.. a 4 pointer.... DS said he was soooo tickled to get a deer... that's great. Normally DS says it has to be 6 pts or bigger, or a doe... unless a misshapen rack... so that the younger bucks have a chance to grow... but this year he said anything was fair game... because we have sooo many and the deer damage in the cornfield was soo bad...
DS brought me some rump roasts, and a tenderloin... her and her family do not eat anything off the deer but the tenderloin... Talk about wasteful.... and they throw out the hides and and everything... I would have liked to gotten a few to get tanned... Cannot believe how wasteful they are... So, he brought me the hindquarters from her last deer... deboned...and I had it in the cooler chest. Got it worked up, washed off and all, and into vacuum bags last night and in the freezer... I mostly like it for venison stew.... so will cut them up when I thaw one... Think there are 5 pkgs of a couple pounds each. I have freezers full of food... need to do like @Mini Horses and start eating strictly out of the stored food stuffs. Food lasts me a long time though since there is just me eating it, like her... And actually, I don't buy much stuff... and do eat out of what is here... I will pick up stuff at Sharp Shopper if it is a good price... and most things there are canned so they last a long time... so I am trying to eat more out of the freezers... Need to get one pretty much emptied as there will be a 1/2 beef going in there in late January... my longhorn x steer ... half is spoken for... and DS is feeding a heifer that will get done in Feb or March I think... one that was open... a friend of his has some beef "sold" but nothing to kill... so some of ours will be getting killed for some of his orders...

Sun is out, partly sun and clouds out there.... there is a slight breeze...and it is up to 40.... Going out to check on things, will go to the farm, get some grain, go up to the pasture and see if any of the 5 cow/calf pairs come in... don't know what DS is doing this morning... if they come in, I will text him... if only some come in then that is fine... they will come in better the next time...and might be able to catch all 5 prs.... and hope to get them all moved in the next couple days. The ones we moved have been grazing the stockpiled grass and laying around in the field right there behind me... Then we have to work the ones at the farm with the calves and get them moved up here behind me too... and the ones that are not going to get bred will go up at snyder's for the winter with their calves.
Eventually the 12 bred heifers will come to snyder's from the pasture they are in, probably in mid-late Dec... to calve in the spring...

So, I am going to go out and get a few things checked on and done... Filled the feeders and waterers for the chickens and turkeys so they ought to be fine. Waterers might freeze some tonight... I will probably go to a bucket for the turkeys... I sure hope the guy that DS said was interested, will take these. Since I decided to sell them, I want them gone... Hoping that he will get the guy to help and get the "skids" under the frames of the pens and then I can close in the plastic on the sides for the winter... and I have GOT to get him to go get the other coop.... I want it here and set up before winter sets in... now that he can get this guy to help him some... I will give him some money and tell him that they need to go get it and bring it back... GRRRR..... at least the other people ought to have all their construction done and ditch filled in and everything so getting in to get it should NOT be a problem now...

Time to get going...

Everyone have a nice day.... keep the good memories in your heart and let's all be thankful for the little blessings in our lives.

Well, it is COLD... wind again last night... temps dropped to 24 and there is wind again today... Forecaster said at least 10 degree colder wind chill feel... and they aren't kidding... It's COLD....been cloudy most of the morning... Sun is out now, for all the good it is doing.
Of course, it could be snowing like a son of a gun too....

Christmas tree lot next door has been wall to wall crazy busy.... They probably will only be open this weekend... growth was slow the past 2 years so not as many trees to sell that are big enough.... if he sells too many smaller ones, then not as many next year... and they have had trouble getting trees so not as many getting replaced as fast...

Went to Deb's and got the small oil radiator type heater plugged in and turned on for the water in the tack room in the barn so it doesn't freeze on her... It can stay on from now on... it's on low.... better than to worry about the small water tank and pipes to the sink in there freezing...

Talked to DS for a bit... He did not go last night... he says he got terrible sick... maybe something he ate when he went to his father's earlier for T-dinner...???? So I went by myself... No one there likes turkey so we had pot roast.... that was fine... nice to visit... home about 9.... DS is going up to see if he could get the bull in at the pasture... to bring to put in with the 1st calf heifers here behind the house... he said that he would like to work the cows with calves there at the barn in the calving field maybe tomorrow and get them moved to the pasture behind the house to get bred. I still have to get the 5 at snyder's in... might try that in a little bit... but will get it done in the next day or 2, I hope. There are about 6-7 more to calve at the barn... had a new one last night... older cow... said calf looked fine... Next fall hope to have them all calved before the first of Dec... or even a little sooner... I'd like to be done by mid Nov for the fall group. Sept and Oct calves is more my preference... Might mean holding some of these late calvers over... and breeding them for spring the following year... at the least, they can go with the bull now, and then when we pull the bull out... if they were late to calve, they might not cycle and breed back, so they can get held over if they are open... try to get our calving seasons shortened up and not into the real cold fall/winter like weather... let the calves get a month or 2 of age before the real cold settles in....

I ate a pbj sandwich and am heading for snyder's ... after I take a little more water out to the chickens and turkeys... But I do not expect the cows to come in for the grain this afternoon... Might be better to wait for the morning anyway.....

It's terrible cold and raw out there... I could not do Montana weather like @Weldman .... it gets cold enough here...
