Frozen milk

How is it, really? I guess I could just freeze some and try it, but asking here is much more fun and interesting! I am planning my breeding schedule, so need to also plan on storing milk for the dry period, three months, I'm guessing.

I have never frozen goat milk for my personal drinking but have had frozen goat milk for alpacas. Sometimes I defrosted a gallon and it was fine. Other times the milk separated and I had to put it in the blender. It worked fine for feeding crias but I'm not sure for human consumption.

I have frozen goat's milk (not thawed it yet tho) was wanting to use it for cheese, yogurt or soap. But I've 'read' that it will separate & sometimes seem watery after thawing but is 'supposed' to be fine. Sorry I couldn't help more. Maybe at the choice of it seeming 'odd' with a seperation or watery (from thawing) you too could use it for cooking, baking or soap making. Curious myself to know what the majority thinks about thawing milk too.

I don't like frozen goat milk for home drinking. It is great for cooking/soap, but mine had a funny taste, and the fat tended to separate.

Oh, poo. I can't find raw goat's milk anywhere around here, hence the goats in my backyard. I was hoping 16 people would chime in with, "It tastes just like fresh milk to me!!"

Well, when I defrost milk, it looks separated,..so no, it would probably taste that way too,...LOL.

My frozen milk also separated when thawed, but I didn't drink it ... just used it to make soap.

wow! we never had any problems and we froze milk all summer/fall!

i put our raw goats milk into glass quart jars and then they went directly into the freezer. they cooled quickly and we could put out to thaw what we needed so nothing ever went bad. we never had separation or weird tastes...

I've used frozen milk a ton for bottlefeeding, and yeah...it seperated. As it was heating on the stove, though, I'd stir the living crap out of it and could usually get it back to near-fresh consistency.

The kids sure seemed to like it and it smelled nice and sweet like fresh milk, but I'm not sure I'd wanna drink it myself afer seeing what it looked like when it first thawed..

Might have been perfectly fine, though.

We also froze extra milk this summer (kids gone to camp) i just chilled after milking and into glass jars into freezer, kids are drinking it now no problems what so ever tatse great!
