I had another productive day today, thanks to continued mild weather, and a gentle breeze that kept me from overheating.

North side of the house at 8:30:

I found the rose and the Crepe Myrtle!

In this one overgrown area:

I identified the following:

Except for this, next to the house:

It's a Carolina sweetshrub, acceptable to keep.

I trimmed the other stuff around it.

Final tarp load:

All that work was done in about 4 hours with my long-handled pruners and my cordless reciprocating saw (for trunks & stumps).

I had an exhausting day at work, and yet, I found my second wind when I discovered that the elderberry plant I'd ordered had arrived!

I'd dug the hole already, so I just added more peat moss, filled it with water and let it settle.

It's a Sambucus canadensis, "Wild Elderberry"

I added pine straw, then clay pots to prevent digging around the plant.

And look who was living under the pine straw mulch!

:love

I dug out a few more roots...look at the size of this one!

Then I planted my melons, and pumpkins! I don't think I have ever tried growing those before.

A couple years ago I used the produce box method, worked really well.

It looks messy right now, but I am happy that I got things planted before the rain arrives.

And it will improve, a little bit at a time.
