There's nothing like sitting and watching your flock to instruct you on their hierarchy and personalities.

After I mowed the yard I sat in each coop, offering carrot greens.

Rahab is top hen in the Sussex group, no surprise. Hannah is runner-up behind Rahab, but Joanna, not quite 12 months old, is working on second place, and is even more vocal than Rahab. Priscilla is the shy one, the outskirter, but has the best plumage imo. Zacchaeus does accept tasty handouts, but now lets his gals eat first. He did take a couple beakfuls of carrot greens, though.

Over in Silas' coop the Dominiques are a tad bossy. Naomi is the matriarch, though Abigail doesn't back down easily. Tamar is still lowest of the three, but not when Esther is eating. That may change as Esther is almost 12 months old, and excels at the snatch and run technique. Silas has matured into a good roo (12 months on May 31), but took advantage of me being the tidbiter this time, got himself some treats as well.

The bare spots on Priscilla and Esther's necks seem to be shrinking. I suspect that only having one rooster grabbing them is a contributing factor.

Next week will be the one month mark since I separated the flocks. The eggs I collect in the Sussex coop will be fertilized by Zacchaeus. All I need now is a broody.

Wet day...I got home and checked on the flocks, and some of the gardens.

Chicken runs were a little wet, the second run a little bit more since it's so new. Dry straw was greatly appreciated!

Zack's flock. The older hens look as if they're gossiping.

BOTH of the "new" rain barrels were full, hose for overflow was going strong. I added a small soaker hose to the end of the overflow hose to disperse the rainwater farther away.

Columbine bed not draining as well as I would like. I added some leaves and pine straw as mulch, will work in more peat moss once the rain stops.

Rain total as of 5pm. It will go a lot higher.

Rain total for 24 hours is 4.5", more on the way. We don't flood here, but the ground is very soggy.

Stepped into the new garden area, almost lost my clog!

Only plant I'm concerned about is the second elderberry.

I'm surprised it's not draining, as the hole I dug was fairly large, and filled with peat moss and compost. Once it's safe to walk there I might make some drainage holes with rebar.

Picked more beans. :yesss:

Got home, a new 1/4" in the rain gauge.

Now more storms are moving through

Here's the soaker extension I attached to the rain barrel's discharge hose:

Elderberry no longer flooded, good.

Ground is firmer, but still very soft in that one spot I stepped into yesterday.

Obedient plants reviving! @canesisters

Coworker gave me some cherry tomatoes that were getting soft. I brought them home.
