Brings back memories... My dad raised Black Rosecomb bantams, mom had Black Tailed White Japanese bantams, sister had White Leghorn bantams... brothers didn't have any long enough to count... I had SC Light Brown Leghorns and SC Dark Brown Leghorns large fowl to start... after the initial flock of "laying hens" as a 4-Her and some cornish rock crosses for meat... My ex had/has OE Game bantams and some large fowl... I dabbled in some cochin bantams, then some Black Langshan bantams... and the Large Fowl New Hampshires...

Your Rosecombs look nice...
Thank you. I believe the Black Rosecombs have no standard variety, only bantams. They were decent egg producers. Miney went broody, and was on her nest in a wire cage when the others were killed. Their heads and entrails were gone, and it horrified me so that I swore I'd do better protecting them in the future.

The kids got to handle Miney's chicks, so they became tame, would fly up and land on your shoulder.

I’m all caught up! Love the chicken pictures and squash from your garden.
@SageHill im amazed that your trombincino squash survived all winter and is growing all over again for you!
That's how mild our winters are. Still, it surprised me as well. I was ready to improve that bed - alfalfa, compost and more dirt - well that will have to wait.

Years ago when I found BYC, I was amazed at all the different breeds and color versions of the breeds. My chicken experience up to that point was “Banty” game chicken mixes. My husband thought I was nuts, but I set about building a coop in the backyard and got 2 Silver Laced Wyandotte’s. He still thought I was nuts but got over it real quick when he started eating those eggs.
Of course nobody can hold it down to 2 hens and soon I had lots of chickens. I kept chickens until I moved to Trinity County 3 years ago and I gave them away. I’ll get squared away and get chickens again, but until then, I’ll enjoy yours. So keep the pictures coming!

No eggs from the Sussex, again. I was wondering, could a snake have gotten in, somehow? I went in the coop with a shovel and my garden knife, but could not find a snake, nor any evidence of an egg eater. All the hens look healthy, glossy. :hu

The Dominiques & Esther are laying frequently.
