Last night Naomi took her chicks back in the brooder at dusk. I shut the door, but opened it this morning. She tried to lead them out into the coop, but they were busy feeding on the spilled crumble. I mixed water and crumble together in a bottle cap, offered it to the chicks and they dug in. Naomi went back in the brooder to eat some mash as well.

Abigail entered, checked out the chicks, then left, no aggression from either hen.

Then Silas approached the brooder, and Naomi puffed up. He left.

I left the door open so they can explore, but will check on them frequently today.

Both my current roosters were broody raised, and disciplined as cockerels by the same hens currently in the flocks. They both show a little deference to the adult hens, and don't try to bully them.

I love she's getting to be a mom. 🥰. Chickens are pretty amazing, even when people see them as dumb. They're not.

I'm pretty amazed that my mom hatched four are still being mothered by the hen. They were 8 weeks this past Friday. Starting to be more sidetracked but still she calls & they scrambled to her 😂

Martha was like that, kept mothering them even when they got big.

They were about 7 weeks old at this point.

Brought some tuna fish to the flocks. I don't eat it, and they LOVE it. I split the can between the two flocks.

While I was in the second coop I noticed that the chicks weren't clustered around Naomi, but were running around and through the other hens, and Silas. Not one adult pecked at the chicks, though I know that eventually they will let the chicks know the pecking order.
