The purslane used to take over at the old house -- until I found out it was useful!!! Then it slowed the take over way down, and not because I started using it that much either. Must be thing - if you want it to grow you're going to have to work at it.
Maybe I need to adopt that attitude! :gig

Busy day...

I dropped off the requested documents at the local Social Security office, including my marriage certificate. My phone appointment is 11/4, then hopefully I will be good to go.

Afterwards I went to the animal shelter to walk a dog I have had my eye on, but someone else had already taken her out, her kennel was empty. So, I took out "Elfie".

I'm tired. She wasn't bad, just full of energy and clueless about leash etiquette. She now has a clue, and got some basic "stay on the left" and "sit when human stops walking" training. I don't let any dog haul me around, bad manners. They also wanted her walked with a harness, which gave me almost no control. But I'm glad I did go, it gave me a dose of dog, which I need. Next time I will walk a smaller dog.

After recovering a little at home, I went outside, checked the flocks, and saw that the cats are using one of the raised beds as a toilet, they dug up my beet seedlings! :somad

I don't have any short fencing left, but I found a partial roll of bird netting. I wove some plastic stakes through the netting to hold it in place.

It's taller than I like, but easily removed for weeding. And it WILL keep the cats out of the beds.

I wanted to put a new front license plate on my SUV, so I went through boxes in the shed looking for mounting hardware. I didn't find any, but came across the hardware from the wooden gates my dad made. The latch won't work on the chain link, but I don't need it. What I was pleased to see was the hardware to hold the drop rod in the up position. I installed it with a zip tie, for now.

I'll attach it better with a little block of wood and screws, but this will work temporarily.

While I was in the shed I checked the sweet potatoes. I put them in there to cure, and they look good, no signs of insect or rodent damage.

As we're expecting wind and rain the next two days I put string over my pea vines so they don't get damaged.

I also "policed" the yard, put items in the shed so nothing lightweight gets blown around.

I cooked a pound of hamburger from the freezer, adding mushrooms, green peas, and some soy sauce. I spooned some over two ends of homemade bread, and it was delicious. There's enough for the next two or three days...I don't mind leftovers.

And finally, here are my ferals, the cats that allow me to pet them now.

Alice and Wisp. They'll "hunker down" on the front porch to stay dry if the weather gets nasty.
