This week I've been weeding my garden beds, plucking out weeds that are the same size as the vegetable seedlings.

Bed #1 - I planted carrots around the milkweed after I noticed a Monarch butterfly laying eggs.

I gave all the little weeds to my chickens, yum yum!

Pulled weeds are in a pile, bottom right ⬆️

The cockerel Jacob is getting less shy. He's still respectful of the elders, but not as freaked out when I enter the coop. This afternoon as I was walking past the coop I saw him in the back far corner. I said "chick chick" which is my treat call, but not loud enough for the others to hear. I slowly stuck a weedling through the wire, and he leaned over, taking a leaf off.

Finally, look at what our gusty winds did!

Garden is looking great.

It's so fun when they start to interact with you. I like calm chickens, makes me crazy when they freak out and flap around, like I'm going to eat them...:ep :gig

I need to locate the frost covers and heavy plastic to cover my trellises. I'm thinking I'll cover the small plants to protect them from frosts until they get bigger. I know I have some covers in the shed, but where?
:hu

Oh well, I had shed organization on my To Do list...

Laughing because it's the same around here... all the time! Where is such and such, I know I just saw it... all the time! 😂

I went to the optometrist today, last visit under insurance. Eyes only changed slightly, but I thought I'd get new lenses in my current frames, which I really like.

They had a sale...40% off when you get both frames and lenses. But would they have frames that I'd like as much as what I've had for three years? No, and yes...they had the exact same model frames!
:yesss:

So, my plan was then to get the new frames and lenses (40% off) and just lenses for my old glasses (20% off). But it was the same price to get another set of frames and lenses as to just replace the lenses! I asked the tech if they had any more frames like mine?

They did, in purple.

I guess I have joined the Red Hat/Purple Glasses Society!
:gig

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
