The Swiss chard has not been happy with the cold weather, even under a row cover (not plastic). I've started pulling up the plants, two daily, and putting an entire plant with rootball and dirt in each of the chicken runs. The flock has been stripping them down to bare stalks.
The chickens prefer collards, but those I don't pull up, just snap off a couple lower leaves which I anchor with a brick to make it easier for the chickens to eat.

ENC's Sunday evening forecast is for extreme cold, 15°F. I removed the remaining hose, did the best I could to insulate the faucet.
Maybe I'll wrap it with an old towel or t-shirt to cover the gap. The foam covers fit great on the other two outside faucets.
I'm afraid I'll be losing most of my remaining crops, blast it! It doesn't get this cold very often, and not usually until January. I have carrots and cabbage that just need a few more weeks.
Outside/feral cats have foam shelters with dry straw. They should be fine, they're survivors.
I topped off my birdfeeders, added a second peanut feeder.
And my chickens have dry and sheltered roosts, they'll just need to get over their quarrels so they can huddle together.
But Esther has decided to start molting!

It is going to be cold here too. It will get down to 26, then warm up to 52! The 20's usually don't show up until January or February. While I was feeding yesterday, It came a gully washer. I had to stop because it was raining too hard. One of the one day old newborn lambs was out in the rain, crying. I was about to go get him and put him in a shelter, when Momma showed up, the other twin tagging along behind her. It was Nora. She nuzzled the crying twin, then my son and I watched from the back porch as she S L O W L Y walked to a Quonset hut, stopping to nuzzle her babies until they were all in the hut.

Calling for temps to drop all day, then wind.... single digits with wind chill in the MINUS categories... like -5 to -15.... that's going to be chilly..... 
Luckily, only last 24-48 hours and temps back into the 40's and 50's by Wed....

I was walking Caleb this morning in a light rain, . He did all that was needed but wanted to go in the backyard. As he investigated each bush, tree, I heard a roaring sound, and all the tall trees started swaying. I hurried Caleb back into the house just as gusty winds arrived, whew. Cold front is here.
I went out a few minutes ago to check on my flocks. It was barely drizzling, but the rain was cold, the type that seeps into one's feet and fingers. Each flock was given a flake of straw to scatter, feeders were topped off, water checked. It was hard to work the turnbuckles to secure the run doors, had to remove my gloves, brr.
Stinky wet Caleb is about to go in his day crate as it's time to leave for church. BBL.
