I read an article about a year ago about a ranch in Utah that has goats you can rent to back pack in the Wasatch mountains. After reading that article I have been dreaming about having working goats. I am still determined to learn how to use goats for hiking companions, but right now I've been dreaming of teaching goats to pull a wagon. I've been reading and looking on line to see what information is out there and notice that all the pictures show only one or two goats hooked up to a wagon/cart at one time. I've been envisioning a team of 6 goats all hooked up to a miniature stagecoach looking cart. Is it just too hard to get more than two goats to pull together? Is this a pipe dream?

Since I don't have goats at this time and am still in the information collecting phase I'd like to know if you all out there think it would be possible to do this. If not, then I'd like to know why you think it wouldn't work. If you think it would what breed/types of goats would I be looking for?

I have read the basics on working goat and types of personalities so I understand that portion.

I don't have any words of wisdom for you - but if you can make it happen please let us know - and take lots of pics! Good luck!

Thanks! I'm hoping some one out there might be able to give me a little guidance.

You could check out the Hoeggerfarmyard.com site. They have a section under "Goat Gear" that deals with harnesses and wagon. Also they have a pamphlet available in the "library" section "General Care and Breeding" that may be helpful.

Sorry I'm not coming up with anything else, you could call Hoegger and ask if any one could chat working goat with you... might find some help that way.

Good luck and I second the request for pictures of your progress, please and thank you.

Thanks! I have run across their website and have it pinned on my goat board on pinterest. LOVE pinterest. I will definitely post pics.as I progress with everything. I did find a picture of someone in Europe, I think, that had a team of 6 goats hitched up to a little wagon, so I'm feeling hopeful! First I've got to decide which breed I want, or if I just want some mutts that are great goats.
