I probably would. I time our kiddings to coincide with my school year ending, which is at the end of May/beginning of June, and we put out heat lamps then on a timer so that the kids have a warm place to sleep at night.
Yes, a heat lamp/warming barrel would be a good idea for the first few hours while the kids dry off and learn to nurse. But I don't always use them in 40 to 50 degree weather, depends on how fast the kids nurse, how strong their legs are and how experienced the mom is.
